Chic ways to wear Birkenstocks

I wonder how long Birkenstocks take to get comfortable because mine still feel like I'm walking on ricks. I don't know if I should just sacrifice my feet this summer and keep wearing them but I'm shocked at people online who mention they can walk hours in theirs. I truly cannot do more than 3 blocks.

I can walk for hours in my plastic Arizonas, but I haven't experienced comfort with any others.

Did you buy regular birkenstocks (like not the designer ones)? I find with my arizonas I can walk hours in them. I have been wearing them since my teens (and I am not 20), different pairs through the time, so maybe my foot is used to them.

I have a high arch and can usually walk in birds right out of the box.
(my issue is that I’m in between a 37 and 38 in some models. So I have a mix of 37 and 38.
In certain styles, I cannot decide so have both sizes
DH has a flatter arch and says they are like walking on rocks.
I think it depends on your feet

ETA: we are all different. I can walk for hours in everything but the plastic ones lol
The exquisite line, the cork sole fully covered in leather, IMO is the nicest looking But the least comfy

I ended up listing them for sale. They hurt way too much

That’s too bad. I think it’s the combo of patent with big buckles…don’t know why Birks wouldn’t have realized this combo would have no give.

I tried on big buckle Madrids after lusting for them all winter, and knew right away the big chunk of metal was going to dig into the tops of my toes when I walked. So got the regular Madrids instead and love them!

Several years ago I bought a pair of Arizonas with thick leather. I wore them to a wedding. Didn't do a lot of walking, but man, by the time I got home my feet were badly blistered and hurt like hell. I wore them off and on for brief periods for about six months, often with socks because the leather was so stiff, and eventually they softened up. Nowadays they're my most comfortable pair of Birks. I can wear them for hours--and days and weeks at a time and my feet feel great. There's definitely a break-in period.

Worth noting is that I developed a mallet toe because of my Birks. One of my toes was always clenching the footbed. I went to a foot and ankle clinic and got x-rays. There's a bunch of things wrong with the toe, including joint arthritis and permanent mallet deformity. Don't have those things wrong with any other toes. I'm convinced it is due to the way my toes were clutching the edge of the Birk footbed.

I sold the big buckles. I did consider keeping them because they’re so cute, but not only did they hurt, they were one size too big. 36 was the smallest I could find.

Does anyone have suggestions for similar styles?
