smurfet, Chevre de Coromandel has the visible spine, a slightly iridescent sheen, and a visible graining, while the newer Chevre being offered for SS08 and beyond (though hopefully NOT a replacement for CdC!!) has no spine unless I'm mistaken, less of a visible grain, and not as much sheen; it's also a bit heavier weight from the swatch I felt. Hope that helps! (There's a thread around here somewhere talking about SS08 new leather swatches/colors but I couldn't find it with my search just then).

Thanks so much Cynthia! My PO from Feb 07 finally came in, but I haven't picked it up yet. So, am not sure if it's the new goat or old CDC. From your description, I think I'll be very disappointed if it's the new version.

Moto...chevre is the best! you will love your new kelly to itty bitty bits! I have one in Havanne (32cm - the largest goat in the herd perhaps) and adore it. I can't wait to see pics of your new beauty!

There are some vintage 32 Kellys in lizard out there occasionally---if you're OK with vintage, of course.

I think it should be CdC because the newer leathers weren't even announced until like July or August 2007 if I recall correctly. Hopefully it will be CdC and you'll fall madly in love!! Lucky lady!

^ So you think I have a chance Cynthia? That's a relief! I tried looking for the thread that you mentioned above re the new chevre, but had no luck either.

BTW, I just noticed that you are expecting. Congratulations! Is this your first pregnancy? I'm currently enjoying my newborn myself. Children are such blessings!

smurfet, your yet-to-be-collected chevre PO should be "CDC Souple". Ask to see the paper tag that comes with the bag. It gives the official names of the specs. And come back to tell us what it is.

Congrats Smurfet! And MrsS is absolutely correct, the CDC available at the last podium was CDC Souple (mostly in Noir, Cocoan, and Etoupe); Chevre Mysore was available in smaller pieces and in the brighter colors (Turquoise, Violette, Vert Anis, Rose Shocking). CDC Souple still has the lovely spine but just has a slightly softer "give" to it that is very nice.

Hi mrssparkles & orchids! *wave* Merry Christmas! Thank you for your well wishes! The baby is so much fun! At the same time, I'm so sleep deprived, I barely have time to do anything for myself.

So CDC Souple is the new chevre? (sorry I'm so behind on H 411 and for being so redundant) Do you agree with Cynthia that it's less shiny?

orchids- you said that the CDC Souple is "softer," is it also lighter? TIA!

I bought a 32cm Kelly just before Thanksgiving, and it's the CDC Souple. I'm sure it had not been at the NYC Wall Street store for very long, so most likely it would have been made from the same type stock as your PO that has just arrived. Mine has the iridescent quality and is just lovely - it's cocoan. I'm attaching a picture so you can see what it looks like. Yours should be the same.

Smurfet, I'm not sure if I noticed a major difference in weight; I've handled one Kelly in CDC souple and didn't notice anything different, and had I not been told it was CDC souple probably wouldn't have been able to tell the difference between it and the old CDC. I saw the CDC souple swatches recently and did notice that the swatches felt thicker than the Mysore ones. It still has a nice sheen to it.

As far as CDC souple being the new Chevre, I think there has been discussion on the board about Chevre Mangalore (sp?) being the one that will be available for this upcoming podium so I'm not sure if CDC souple will still be available at the Feb podium. I think it was to the new Chevre Mangalore (for SS '08) to which Cynthia was referring to in post #31 (pls. feel free to correct me if I'm wrong there).

So glad you're enjoying the tiring, yet exhilarating newborn stage Smurfet! It gets even better!
