People can be unneccessarily rude. I mean why on earth would anybody butt into a conversation, that doesn't concern them, just to be rude. IMO she must have some inbuilt insecurities or she is probably just a nasty person.
I feel terrible for your friend. I hope she doesn't take any notice of that 'lady'.

When someone says something that is so completely and utterly rude, the only polite thing we can do is simply not have heard it, and while gazing cordially into the speaker's eyes, ask a question, or make a comment completely unrelated to the remark we simply did not hear.
