Cheap Clothing, Expensive Handbags

I tend to buy pretty plain middle of the road designer basics like James perse, Vince and theory. If I were more fashionable I would definitely try topshop or h&m out!

I was putting together a response in my head but got SUPER distracted by nascar's comic strip that I burst out laughing, saved it, and shared it with a bunch of people, and totally forgot what my response was lol.

I'm back today, and have recomposed myself.

As I got more into premier bags, I did notice that I started to look out for premier designers for certain articles of clothing, such as belts and jackets. I have slowly spent more on these items because I intend to keep them for quite some time, and also, I'm quite picky about them so if I find something I like, I want to know they will last for a long time. Premier brands tend to have that reputation, and tend to work out that way - not all, but generally speaking.

When it comes to my daily wear clothes, or trendier items, I spend what I feel comfortable spending, to make sure I look put together. They could be really expensive, or not so much, but really, it's my comfort level and my plans for said item. I may not want to spend a lot on pants if I know my weight will fluctuate, or I may want to spend a lot on a black sheath dress because I want it to last as long as possible through a lot of wears. That said, there are certain stores that I am drawn to simply because I know their sizes and cuts fit me a certain way and I don't really think about whether it's an expensive store or not - I buy if I'm comfortable with the price and its quality for what I'm paying, and it serves the purpose to make me look as good as I want. That's all.

I fall into the category - somewhat pricey bags, mostly affordable clothing.

I see the value in expensive bags to a certain degree, but could make most designer clothing myself if I took the time to sit down (I sew).
Their quality does not match the prices even closely. Some are of better quality than H&M and Zara, but ever so slightly and not enough to spend hundreds for it. I do own a bit of second hand and outlet designer fashion. Fine for the outlet SALE price, but not worth the 260 OP.

My H&M clothing does last quite a bit with gentle care too. I have favorites well over ten years old.
I do plan to buy a few more designer brands on sale to explore different designs and craftsmanship but with a price limit in mind ;)

I am a Lands' End, J Crew, Target, Garnet Hill for clothes (also Nordstrom a bit more expensive) with expensive bags. I live in the country and don't dress up much. Ii get a couple dresses per year so I have something for weddings, etc, but that's it.

I try to have premier designer bags and mid-range clothing (Max Mara, Theory, Vince, Chloe, rag&bone, etc.).
I feel that clothes are more susceptible to utter destruction than bags, so spending real money on them is nowhere close to an investment. I am a person that takes extremely poor care of things, for me even the most luxurious bag has to be thrown on the floor under my chair and refuse to consider dry cleaning as an option for anything other than coats and jackets.
So I buy my bags pre-owned and try to get quality clothing that I can afford spilling something on without freaking out!
With shoes I try to stick to really good quality (and premium brands) as poorly made shoes are terrible to wear and I find the lack of quality to be also patently visible.

My ensemble today:
jeans, 40€
shirt, 12€
cardigan, 10€
shoes, 18€
bag, 300€.
I bought all my clothes and the shoes from sale. The bag was a preloved bargain. Still, this made me chuckle as I did the math! :roflmfao:

I used to think that wearing so-so clothes with good bags would be all right but the older I get the more I grasp the importance of high quality, well fitting clothes and shoes. I've always
been conscious of the ethical manufacturing and the quality of the clothes but pay even more attention to this these days. It is hard work finding well fitting, well made clothes made of high quality material and also finding a good tailor! I buy far fewer clothes these days and am very conscious of what I buy, but what I get is well made and is of high quality. It doesn't need to be designer. But high quality is often expensive. It makes you look and feel much more polished.

I have a purse addiction. Not a clothing addiction. ;-p

When I married, my husband made a comment about the abundance of handbags that I have. The way I look at it, it makes more sense to spend money on a bag than on an article of clothing...

Gain weight or lose weight, a purse will always fit... not the case with clothes.

:nogood:
I do not think it's obvious that just because they have expensive bags it means they have enough money for expensive clothes. Especially if they spend a lot of money on expensive bags.
Perhaps - but I always think something has gone terribly wrong when someone carries a Chanel bag and wears sweat shop made clothes...

I sew as well, and I don't see the value of high end designer clothes considering my weight fluctuates so much.
