GRRR.....My Absolutely wonderful start to my day by finding one of my HG bags has been ruined.... Found a very rare bag that's been on my wishlist FOREVER as a BIN auction this morning on E-bay. Hit the BIN as soon as I saw the auction, paid through PP using CC and now the seller has contacted me by email, telling me that she wants me to pay via a paypal invoice that she sent me because otherwise she won't get the payment until 6/15. Don't know how paypal/ebay works because I've never sold, so I don't know if this is true or not (noticed she only has 18 feedback).....so I told her 'no' and to refund me back if she doesn't want to complete the transaction through Ebay.

TPFers~ Please reassure me I'm doing the right thing....I'm so sad right now!!!

I'm so sorry this happened, I can only imagine how disappointing this must be for you.
:hugs:

Yes, for newer ebay sellers (I think just for luxury items) they will send the funds to paypal but keep them in a state of hold status until the item has shown by the tracking that it was received and then they add another 3 days on to that before they release the funds. The date of 6/15 is probably just an estimate but she could get the funds sooner depending on how quickly you receive the item.

IMO I think you did the right thing. It's not right that the seller is expecting you to circumvent the process just so she doesn't have to play by the rules. The hold on the funds for newer sellers is there for a reason, ebay/paypal want to be sure that the seller completes the sale satisfactory before giving them their money.

That's BS...you PAID via PP. It doesn't matter if it's via an invoice or not. The money goes into her PP account either way. And that's BS too about the length of time she has to wait...nuh uh, it goes in between 3-4 days.

Report that idiot.

Thanks for the feedback ladies....I emailed her back telling her I was willing to wait till the 15th for the payment to clear before she sends me the bag, but I guess I see what you are saying Codegirl, she won't get the money until I RECEIVE the bag and leave feedback... I'm so on the fence about this because I want this bag THAT BAD!!!

I did notice in the invoice that she put the name of the bag in the notes, but I remember reading here on TPF that there's a way the seller can send you an invoice as "service" rather than "goods" and in that instance, you have no recourse through E-bay/paypal if you get scammed. I don't see anywhere on the invoice where it states whether its a "for goods" invoice, or a "for service" invoice.....what to do, what to do....

Ya, I tried to find that out once with a paypal invoice and there was no way for me to tell if the invoice had the category goods or services on it. I even called paypal and they wouldn't tell me which category it was, which made no sense at all.
If you really really really want the bag, could she sell it to you through Bonz instead? I don't think the funds are held in paypal when it goes through Bonz.
And I'm sure you already know this, but make sure to pay with a credit card so you have that extra protection if you do buy the bag.
HTH!

Really? When did they start doing this? That actually BLOWS. Like buyers need EVEN MORE POWER. BOO.

That's not to say, though, that going outside of the eBay/PayPal parameters is the way to go, either. That's just asking for trouble.

I don't know when they started doing this, but I think it's for the first 25 sales or something like that. Not really sure. And it may just be for sales in certain high risk categories too. ???

CA, what's your gut telling you to do? That's an OBNOXIOUS thing to have happening with a HG that you've been wanting forever...but we want you to be safe. :)

I just talked to a friend of mine who has no knowledge of e-bay and this forum (but he is aware of my SLIGHT purse obsession), and in just giving him the background information about the situation, he said don't do it, so as much as I want this bag, I guess I'll have to pass.....
The seller did email me a little while ago and explained her situation and she seems honest, just trying to raise a little money on her unused bags to make ends meet, but you just never know these days.
I was thinking about posting the specifics to potentially warn others, but on the other hand, I don't want to slander her name in the event she is an honest seller.

Pfft, that blows. BOO! Too bad. Now PM the bag name, b/c I'm curious. LOL! :p

New sellers have holds put on their funds until either: feedback is left, tracking shows the item has been delivered, or after (I believe) 21 days.

Regardless, it is against eBay policy for her to ask for payment outside of eBay.

IMO the seller should just suck it up and go through ebay and PAY THEIR FEES since she used them. If you're willing to wait to get your bag, then I don't see a problem. The seller should be okay with ebay's rules (however crazy they are!) if she uses ebay's services. Then you will get your bag after all!:smile1:

If you leave positive feedback as soon as it arrives, paypal will release the funds 24 hours later. If this bag is something you really, really want you could try to convince the seller to go that route. If she shipped it out today with priority shipping you should have it no later than wednesday.

It's not just new sellers. I don't sell regularly (just when I need $) maybe every few months or so. I've had my PP account restricted, then lifted, then restricted, then lifted again. Currently I'm on the lifted side of it, LOL

Thanks for the feedback ladies (sorry I realized this has turned into an 'ebay' topic rather than about this rare HG bag that I THOUGHT I had won.....) The seller is insistent about going the invoice route, so I told her to go ahead and cancel my pending CC payment so she can relist.....Man, talk about not counting your eggs before they're hatched, I was SO EXCITED to get this bag, you just don't know....C'est La Vie, as they say.

ETA- Sorry thank you too for the feedback lynzbys- I thought I had multi-quoted your post too!

2nd ETA- Do you think I should leave feedback indicating that after I made payment for the bag she decided to change the rules, or just let it go? She seems very friendly in her e-mails, so I don't think she's any type of scammer or anything.

I've been lurking around here and not posting but I've got to respond to this one.

That seller EARNED whatever feedback you choose to leave. (And I'm not one to recommend arbitrarily negging sellers!) Do not let it go!

Of course, this is JMHO.

Thanks for your input BB. This MAY turn out all right in the end after all....Seller spoke w/ CS at E-Bay regarding the hold period before she receives my payment and I think she is willing to wait now...keeping fingers crossed this transaction has a happy ending!!
