It wasn't shill bidding. It's just a case of a newbie bidder who doesn't understand proxy bidding. If you look at the automatic bids, the 333-feedback bidder put in a high bid early on and the newbie was bidding in minimum increments.

I do find this a bit curious though: Is it probable that the seller had 2 of the identical bag? She sold this one on April 12:

ETA: It looks like the April 12 winner was NPB.
That price was much more reasonable. How do you know the winner April 12 was NPB other than the lack of feedback? The current buyer already paid so I guess she doesn't mind paying double or has no clue.

Either a newbie or a shiller. That's what a shill bidder does, they bid a little bit more each time, eventually raising the price for the real buyer.
The only way you tell that it is a shill bidder is if they have bid on more than one of the same seller's auctions and haven't bid on many auctions of other sellers. This bidder didn't bid on any other auctions so it might be a newbie.

All retailers, whereever situated, do have to be bound by California's laws if they ship into the state. And most retailers know not to ship python into California.

And btw, if you report an auction to Ebay where the seller is in California and they are selling a python item, Ebay WILL remove the auction.

Also California Fish & Game are VERO members and have been known to report auctions - and worse.

Illegal means you cannot sell python in the state of California. There is no exception for used items.
A Californian can go to Nevada to buy a python purse and bring it back into California. When I was in Las Vegas, the SAs at Reed Krakoff said they couldn't ship me a bag but they were happy to sell me one.
When a person lists on ebay, they don't have to provide their real location in the auction, so it would be difficult for VERO members to find this out. The privacy of the winning bidders is protected so the only ones who know that the item is being shipped to California is the buyer, seller and ebay, who could block it if they wanted to, but I don't think they do.

WTH???? :weird: ...I must admit that the bidding war with the zero feedback "new" buyer has me concerned to say the least!

I don't find it so odd that someone would pay that price for that bag. It's still sold for $50 less than MSRP, and those large Embellished C Sophias are very popular, and the Willow color was hardest to find at outlet.

I would not have paid that much but I can understand why a buyer with no access or bargain-hunting resources might do so. I have a large Putty and a small Black but if I found that Willow in $200 price range I'd be all over it!

Actually, ebay policy doesn't allow misrepresentation of item location:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/item-location.html

Sellers must be clear and accurate about the location their item will be shipped from. We don't allow false, inaccurate, or misleading information about the location of an item in the Item location field or description.

Yes, I thought that too. But plenty of sellers list their location as Coach Country, USA, or something else nonsensical like that. I think Ebay only cares that you are honest about the country where the item is located.
