Jeez, the guy has the information right in front of him on the receipt. Anyone who bids thinking they're getting a Willis is going to be PO'd.

The receipt is dated 1998, not 1988, and it's actually for that bag, which is a Beekman Computer Bag, style 5299, similar to the 5266 Beekman Brief and probably from around 1997-98. I don't have anything else in my files on it, not even measurements, or at least I didn't until I saw that listing. Since laptop computers from the late 90s were pretty large, it would have to be big enough to handle something with a 15 or 16-inch screen at least, and at least an inch thick or more. So it must be around 16x14 inches but that's just a guess.

But it AIN'T no Willis, Willis!
There's one in the completed listings showing measurements of 14 x 13.5.

I sent a polite message seeking clarification.

Do you think this is an auto correct error or does the seller really think its called a 'Willies'.

I'm betting yes because of the rest of the listing.

The heading states it's 1988 with 'original receipt' but the receipt is for a black Beekman and is dated 1998!

There seems to have been some effort to show the creed without the serial number.

And look at the price!

It sure looks to me like she's purposely trying to mislead her buyer. For someone who doesn't seem to be able to read, she did a darned good job coming up with a Willis style number, something that doesn't show on the receipt nor on the bag!

Even the description states, "A Beautiful Vintage Willis Small Tote Brief Messenger Bag, Style no. 9927."

It's been reduced in price since first listed:

Seller ended the listing and responded:

"Hello, thank you for bringing this to my attention. I truly have to research what this bag is. I apologize this is the first coach bag I have handled and I thought it looked like a Willies Bag but I was wrong. Where do you find the style of the bag in the bag and receipt? Thank you for your interest in my bad post"

I provided a heap of info and links and s/he found TPF so will be able to re-list correctly.

It renews my faith in humankind when sellers like this are open to receiving advice (unlike geeka1234 who hasn't responded to my message about the sold fake Carousel and will probably sell the fake trinket box too)

I bet having had listed it several times without any interest had something to do with her receptiveness to advice. If she describes the bag correctly, she'll have a much greater chance of selling it. There are tons of Willis bags, but this one is a little bigger and more rare.

Whateve, did you win the green and tan Dakota?
No! I got outbid by a sniper in the last 4 seconds! I knew I should have put in a ridiculously high bid. I'm so sad. :shucks:

No excuse for the future now she knows where to go for information.

Oh no! How frustrating. It was a nice one.

It's hard to know what to bid sometimes. Yesterday I missed out on a buy because I was driving to work when it ended and as there were no bids I got complacent and put in a low bid before I left rather than stopping on the way. The good thing is I saved some money!

That's why I always snipe, and always for the absolute max I'm willing to spend. That way there are no regrets if I get outbid.

(And no, I wasn't the sniper on the Dakota!) :D

And if she describes it as a computer bag and gives the inside dimensions, even better.

I have to confess that I like the thrill of the auction so would never use e-snipe. If I really really want a bag I'll even get up in the middle of the night to bid and leave it to the last few seconds to put in my max bid.
