I wouldn’t trust them to pass it
They rejected the Caribou once they had it in hand. My guess is they didn’t even bother to look it up and/or verify it online. Granted, the seller didn’t provide a lot of information in the description (she generalized the year she bought it as “early 2000s and didn’t identify it by name), but I think the leather, hardware and tag were too unique for anyone who isn’t familiar with vintage Balenciaga to know that it was actually a rare oldie. When she submitted it to VC, they didn’t even accept the listing. They rejected it immediately - my guess is they saw the pebbled leather and irregular tag and decided it wasn’t real

This listing doesn’t provide many more details either. Combined with the irregularities of those vintage bags, I wouldn’t be surprised if eBay rejects it based on authenticity, unless it gets into the hands of someone who’s willing to put in the work to really authenticate it, which I don’t think they are
Have to agree it’s frustrating to try to sell the vintage Bals. Their go-to is not, “This is deemed to be a counterfeit.” Rather, the lazy, CYA, “We are unable to authenticate this.”
Meanwhile, buyer and seller are pulling their hair out. :frown:

I question that "only 25" thing. Yes, apparently there were 25 made for the models but I'm guessing the ones we see for sale are just the first run of bags made for public consumption. I could be wrong but we seem to see too many of them for them all to be the original 25.
Yes! That's what I think!
Over the years we've seen too many Le Dix gold label to think that any of these are those.

I'm very all of those goy thown around like that twin treated her Seafoam and are ruined by now or buried in some assistant's closet somewhere.

Cee Jay had one I believe, right? Maybe 2 given she loved multiples...I miss her so.

A quick word from an insomniac about the interesting 01 FB First. It looks authentic to me but with a feature that will create doubt. The one sided tag should not be stitched down and will almost certainly be flagged by an authenticator familiar with the original Le Dix bags.
Amazing call! You're no joke!

But what are the chances ebay has anyone familiar enough to catch this?

When I called Bal a lean brand ...I meant it has fairly few styles and such to become familiar with so that one can actually have a shot at being "expert " at authentication.

I am stunned by those who can authenticate LV or Chanel Or Coach...the brands are soooo deep and with so many styles and all the super super fakes....it just seems damn impossible.

And I've seen too many obvious fakes on trr for example back in the day when I would actually call them on the phone and harass them into taking them down.

How the hell can ebay claim to have staff fluent enough in all this to do that. I admired that one site (can't remember name, it was French name) that specialized in Chanel. They seemed to be serious and I would love a vintage Jumbo and I was going to use them once when I came close to buying one.

Plus, while the leather looks amazing, it's stunningly black. Almost too black. Either it was kept unmarried (and I've have found quite a few that were so ots possible)...or maybe it's been touched up and that's why the tag may be stitched down...maybe it was about to fall off or something and the person just sewed it down completely to secure it?
Hmmm?

I guess you can learn anything. I am clueless about Bal but know a lot about Coach. I stay away from authenticating the new styles, which I believe a lot of Chanel authenticators also do.

Why? Are they unable to authenticate because they are stupid and really have no business claiming they are knowledgeable about this very lean brand considering LV or Chanel?

And is this really one of the original 25? I asked if it had its mirror 🪞

I typically stay away from Firsts but I made an exception recently for.a super rare one, and this is tempting...if it's one of those but if forgotten so much of my Bal being away during Covid. Is it one of the original? And why won't it pass?
Forgive me asking stupid questions..have pity .

Who got that Eggplant first from trr by the way. I missed again. I don't think I'll ever find one
The 2001 Le Dix bags (aka the original 25) didn't come with a mirror. This one doesn't have the zipper stop either so it has to be a 2001 (as opposed to a 2002 bag that had its mirror lost).
I know Corey from Real Deal did a great deep dive on these earliest of Bal's, but I can't find it on the site anymore.

She moved her store to a new host so all the old pics and reference library no longer exist

Here's the WayBack Machine link...

"Zippers did not have stops on the ends and were just sewn in.
Interior branded with a single-sided leather tag, either gold stamped 'Le Dix Balenciaga Paris' or debossed 'Balenciaga Paris.'
Linings could be black and often matched the bag in either a ribbed material or woven cotton and logo printed at least in the black/white stripe versions, a 24"-27" long leather strap with chunky brass clips (without a weight distributor), and no mirror."

Good job using the Wayback machine! I have saved screen shots of the photos as well in case anyone needs to see something not showing with the old link.
Hmmm, maybe you should make a new thread in the Ref Library for 01-02 bags, please? :flowers:

(Did a quick look and couldn't find an existing thread for general early bags.)

I've been kicking myself for not printing to PDF those pages when they were up/the images were still working...

Could use this one, although there may be one other

There’s also this one

I greedily want @Conni618 to post all of the screenshots in one place, hehe.

I'll add my Second and Third Season Hobos to the thread, if it's just one 01-02 thread.
I updated my original comment with a second link
