I see, I noticed this season’s tiffany green caviar classic flap seems to have a softer grain but I thought it was just for that colour because I haven’t heard anyone else mention about the leather until now. Black caviar classic flaps typically have the toughest leather somehow.
I have the same issue with my 20B jumbo, it’s a much softer caviar compared to other seasons’ coloured jumbos. Even the flap is flexible and other seasons’ feel as if they almost have a cardboard backing inside the flap and is not as flexible. I was at the boutique a few times to feel other seasons’ coloured jumbos and the classic black jumbos, asked a few SAs about this and whether it affects the longevity of the bag and their answer is no (but I’m not sure). They only mentioned seasonal colours may use a different caviar leather (sometimes shiny, sometimes softer) as compared to the classic black. I try to console myself by saying it’s a different feel and look, perhaps intended for the burgundy colour I purchased with shw, so as to make it look less dated and less dull since it has a shinier caviar. Perhaps it all boils down to individual preference and whether you mind it . Personally, if I had noticed the softer leather before purchase, I would not have bought it. I wanted to buy caviar for its durability and sturdiness. I don’t even know if this counts as declining quality or if it can just be brushed off as “a different leather”.
