Hi I recently got the mini 2.55 aged calfskin with aged gold hardware. I ordered it from my SA but when it came I noticed it’s a little sharp on the top. Is this normal?
Lucky you were able to grab this! Hard to find and I was able to get mini in white. Yes top is pointy due to there’s no double flap but even then it will eventually be pointy. It’s a characteristic of the bag! If you are not happy send it my way! Ha ha! Enjoy and congratulations!

This is normal. When I got mine I was a bit wary too but my sa said it’s because coco used to like wearing it as a clutch too hence the more softer shape of the top and base and it’s less structured than the cf minis! Enjoy her it’s gorgeous - not being biased at all..

I have a Céline Triomphe in green emerald and I usually wear it at day. For evening, the black one may go well but perhaps Chanel would look more adequate.
Thank you that is helpful! How is the leather wearing on both? I am looking at aged calfskin for the Chanel and shiny box leather on the Celine- I worry celine will be more prone to scratches/be less durable than the Chanel ?

Haha thanks! I have to sleep on this and see if I still like it. I’ve seen some photos of other people’s purses and their top is more curved! Mine is just like someone folded it completely flat.

Haha thanks! I have multiple minis and this is the first one I’ve seen with such a pointy/sharp, folded top! I’m used to the curvature look. Even when I opened the flap my SO said it looked like I was unbending it.

What are everyone’s hardware and leather preferences? I’ve seen it in both antiqued gold and very shiny gold, leaning towards aged calfskin with more antiqued gold (less glitzy! I find a lot of the designer chains that are super shiny look so cheap) but wondering how the antiqued hardware will age

I am very careful with both bags. The Céline Triomphe is shiny box leather and looks gorgeous, but if you want something really durable, my advice is for Chanel caviar.

I have a 226 reissue with the ruthenium hardware which I love and also a 225 with ghw. I prefer ghw on the 225 and mini reissues and the ruthenium on larger bags. I agree that shiny hardware can look cheap. I don’t think the ghw is delicate, but probably will fade somewhat over time. I actually think this “wear” will just Make it look more vintage over time....so when my daughter grows up and carries it she can appreciate it for what it is...a timeless, elegant, vintage bag that her mother used to carry.

I vote for reissue in aged gold hardware - just looks so classic and timeless!

My personal opinion: I choose ruthenium, silver or gold hdw depending on the color. My reissue is white-ivory and gold hdw. Shiny hdw can look cheap...well, depending on the material as well. Perhaps at first sight, but golden hdw with a good material looks quite different if you stare at it. Ruthenium looks modern if you wear it with casual clothing. I also like the mixed materials in the Chanel19 chain, this hdw looks modern and elegant at the same time. A good golden hdw may fade a bit with time, but if you clean it properly, it recovers the original color with a "vintage shadow" which makes it even more beautiful. A cheap material just fades...

Aged gold will result in a “windshield wipe” effect on the hardware while ruthenium doesn’t show the same wear. If one wears the bag a lot that type of wear is inevitable and pretty quick, actually. I personally will not invest in Chanel aged gold hardware anymore in a Reissue style as it’s subpar quality. The reissue lock will show a “rainbow’’ in AGHW quickly. I agree that gold makes reissue classic looking. It’s a more mature classic look while ruthenium makes the bag less matronly and more modern. As for the pointy top of the contemporary reissues, I find that it’s nearly impossible to find a perfect more rounded top brand new. There were plenty produced with a more rounded beautiful top which would eventually sharpen over the years. Nowadays they mostly come out sharp right out of boutiques. Chanel taking more production shortcuts? I personally looked at at least 6-7 226 reissues in black before I found the one with a more rounded top. There were plenty of other issues with those bags (not picky but was surprised at the amount of popped stitches, strange horizontal lines on the brand new MII across the front flaps and other quality issues). Mine happened to be MIF. Softer tops 225s and 226s do exist though. Brand new reissue minis are pretty much always sharper at the top in my experience. If not then mini will sharpen at the top within the first couple of weeks of wear. “Sharp” or “rounded” - reissues are quintessential Chanel! My reissues and Loewe are the most worn everyday pieces.
