Chanel Price Increase Vs Quality

So far I’ve had no issues with either caviar or lambskin. I’ve purchased a few since the price increase. I used to only buy caviar but last year I ventured into lambskin and to my surprise it’s nice and not as super delicate as I thought it would be.
Pre-loved for me is a NO! Mainly because 1)I don’t have the time to get it checked out for authentication and 2)the prices don’t see that much of difference. 3)I prefer new all the way.

So, I would say my purchases of bags over the last 7 years have maybe been close to 300 for just Chanel? Most are "fine" - no flaws to mention, but also no amazing quality to mention either. Several are impressive, but my expectations are so low that one could just say that these exceeded my low expectations. But YES, plenty of issues. Upside down CC. CC clasp misaligned on front (off center). Reissue clasp was diagonal once. Inside 'CHANEL' tag upside down. Boy chains fell off right out of the box. Bubbled leather. Chipping on so black hardware. Missing glaze on patent jumbo. One of the feet missing on a coco handle. Glue spots. A flap half inch shorter on one side than the other. A cf with TWO DIFFERENT lots of caviar leather (boy that was a really weird one). That's all I can think of for now, but I will say *lately* things have been better. I do appreciate for the most part that caviar can take a beating!

curious which bags have exceeded your (albeit low) expectations??

editing to add: WOW you certainly have had some weird and bad quality issues. The Boy chains falling off and the different leather?!?

Wow, your collection sounds very impressive. I was shocked when you mentioned the defects. I am hoping that with a collection as extensive as yours, every purchase can't be perfect. But, at the same time, considering how they price the items, this seems unreasonable. Their quality control should be much better. May I ask which pieces you thought were impressive ?

I sold most awhile ago - I went anti-Chanel I think twice already. Maybe 3x. It’s the ever evolving collection for sure.

As far as impressive, I think the REV items lately (permanent collection), the coco handles since they went back to leather linings, some seasonal classic flaps (this seasons iridescent caviar for example), the metallic pieces when they’re calf not lamb, reissues for the most part have always been good, 19a was full of amazing pieces and well done. There’s really no formula. You’ve got to just watch and inspect?

Yeah I’ve kind of seen it all! So I will attach pics here of 2 REV jumbos that I think are best of the best w/ caviar …and this seasons iridescent caviar … also the 19s have held up well. 7A10E535-E18E-4999-8A02-2AD6BE2AF82D.jpegC30244D4-0C48-4BE7-9ECF-18E9747145D2.jpegF0416BBF-4ADB-4A4F-8EDC-6BF9DB4238BE.jpeg

In my experience, the issue is with QC and Chanel releasing bags to be sold that are defective. The issue is NOT (again, IMO) the quality/longevity of the bags that were purchased without quality issues. Not sure if this makes sense but I will try to explain below.

I would agree that it’s probably a good idea to check your bag before purchasing. I had one bad experience purchasing remotely - I was shipped a reissue with a huge crease across the front from storage issues. But, I’ve ordered remotely from the boutique 5 times and this was the only time I had an issue. The SA was great and shipped me a new one. That bag has held up great, no complaints.

All of my Chanel bags (my oldest is an 18 series purchased preloved several years ago so I can’t speak to quality prior to that) have held up great. I have enough bags that I don’t use most of them very frequently except my WOC. That one has taken a beating and still looks brand new.

I will add 2 other random thoughts:
- I agree with @880 that different people have a different eye/tolerance for imperfections. I am not one to inspect every microscopic centimeter of my bags so I definitely have a higher tolerance generally than most
- IMO the questions about quality have gotten out of control for Chanel. I find it interesting that people are willing to accept a slouchy Birkin or Kelly out of the box (or one with a crooked/unevenly pressed stamp, etc) and chalk it up to the bags being hand made. In my observation, people are much more forgiving of Hermes, specifically (and I’ll consent that in my example, there are surely a group of people who would prefer a slouchy bag, so maybe they are happier starting out with it that way). I agree that Chanel quality of material and craftsmanship is nowhere near that of Hermes but I feel like there is a herd mentality with both houses. “All Chanel imperfections must be criticized” versus “It’s expected to have some imperfections with Hermes because it’s handmade.”

While generally Chanel probably has more issues (because they release too many defective bags to the sales floor), and Hermes truly does make their bags by hand so their imperfections may be more “excusable,” I just think the criticism has gone too far with Chanel.
I agree for sure. So many price increases in such a short amount of time with bags I find with small issues all the time. I wanted to purchase one while I was overseas months ago, but the one had some nicks. I do regret it now because it’s jumped up two price increases since so I’m sure I’d have gotten my value.
I don’t think I’ll ever find it worth it to buy at retail now.

I have looked at these photos several times loll... I can' t make up my mind. Your jumbos are in perfect condition. How long have you had your caviar jumbos? I want beige with GHW, but maybe I should get something darker. I am always thinking about colour transfer. Is it safe to assume you prefer the darker colours?

Is there a pre-loved boutique that you have purchased from and would recommend?
