I talked with my NM SAs yesterday, and they have not heard anything about the price increase yet. Anyway, I hope this time it is not true; at least not for the classics. All the prices listed in the catalog are already 10-20% higher.

I was joking with my DH that the best "investment" I made last year was for all my Chanel bags. It seems that they are the only ones which had more than 50% increase in the price - not sure about the value.

Layla -- thanks for the article. People don't have much of a choice when it comes to paying big bucks for gas, food and other necessities. They do have a choice in the non-essentials. The stats came in on the holiday spending figures and it was no surprise to moi that spending was down. One didn't get that impression, though, during the season from the news media.

You are welcome jmen.

On Saturday the SA in NYC Soho said right in time for the "Valentine's shopping season." I guess that could be Feb.1, but she also told me that no SA is privy to the exact date so that no one could tell you with assurances the exact date.

I called my SA in HK today, she was out. I talked with another SA about price increase in Feb.1 , she told me the increase would hit on watch and jewelry . NO BAGS will be effected by this price increase.:smile1::smile1: I hope so. Can any of you confirm it?

Yes. I called to boutique for asking more detail. My SA also gave me the same answer.

I should probably get a Chanel bag or two instead of LVs before the next price increase then. It will be interesting what strategies Chanel will adopt if their bottom line does fall.

Hubby and I were discussing the numerous price increases over the course of '07 and he said something that hadn't crossed my mind. "I wonder what has them scrambling so that would cause them to keep having to raisie prices." It's an interesting angle, one I certainly hadn't thought of previously. Oh there's been the oh, because they can; to keep up with other designers, etc. Maybe, but I don't know that other designers have nailed their clientele repeatedly in such a short time span.

I do know if I get caught in a hike before my waitlisted bag arrives, it's going to depend on the mood du jour whether I say send it or jam it.

There will always be those who will be able to afford Chanel, no matter what the price. And these buyers will have the ability to purchase more than 1 at a time because their lifestyle and income can support it without a concern.

As I recall from other posts here; isn't this the customer Chanel is TRYING to win back? That "exclusivity" they felel they've lost? For those of us not in that income bracket, it's a shame, a heavy sigh, a "great, now it's going to take me even longer to purchase what I really want and love". To others it will be "goody. More for me and I won't see it anywhere else".

Chanel knows what they're doing. I don't believe they're all that concerned about a recession as the "high end" customer will still be buying while the rest of us will be hanging on for a bumpy ride.

Very correct, indeed.
