Stopped by the downtown Gucci today. Still didn't buy one. Did the brass colored "GG" bother you at all?
I think that's what's stopping me- I keep thinking Covergirl.
As I stated before, Chanel's price increases may just mean cutting down on the number bags and making perfectly sure of my wants and needs.

I'm likely biased since I'm here on the Chanel board - but honestly, I have a $$ threshhold I'm willing to spend for all hand bags, and it's in the few hundreds. Except for Chanel. Chanel handbags just make my heart sing. I've purchased other bags - Marc Jacobs and Chloe specifically, and they felt like a waste of money O.O. Never felt that way with a Chanel.

Slight increases seem to be happening in the USA. Seasonal bags that would have been at a $2700 pricetag are showing up as $2900; a $3300 price might be $3400 or $3500; and what was $3600 or $3700 before, looks like they are now $3800 or $3900. Has anyone else noticed these increases?

Update- I did get a Gucci Marmont Matelassé camera bag. I love it. Not Chanel quality by any means, but it joins my Chanel bang-around bag. It has a magnetized pocket in the front that's awesome. I wore it to the waterfront piers. I didn't think twice about my Gucci bag getting damaged. I was so relaxed while surrounded by people, wearing my zippered/chain strapped crossbody.

I'm still thinking about my Reissue. I'm 85% sure I'm going to keep it...then I'm off to far, far away Ban Island where I will enjoy everybody's reveals by telescope.

Ha! The camera bag sounds like a better choice than the marmont flap. Good for you! They're sooo carefree and definitely much cheaper.

I was attracted to the marmont flap bag too...but when I saw it in real life, I couldn't get away fast enough. It looked terrible. The sides were caving in, the leather dull and wrinkled. It didn't have the look of an expensive designer bag. Sad but true. I'd go Chanel anytime.
sadly I have to agree. I wanted a marmont too, and almost bought one. Put it on hold, walked to the Chanel boutique, and was blown away by the quality difference. I ended up with a Chanel WOC in chevron caviar with shw.

I have many Chanel flaps (20 plus) and recently got 2 Gucci Marmont. Recognize what everyone is saying about quality difference but they are very easy to use bags. The small size is equivalent to the medium/large but much lighter and can be worn crossbody. I also got a too handle which reminds me of my Hermes Kelly except way cheaper and worry free!

You're welcome! Guess what? If I were you, even if I don't keep the reissue? I wouldn't get the marmont either. Yeah...it's that bad.

I wanted to let you know the Marmont I bought lasted one outing. There was something wrong with the leather on the back panel- the "coating" rubbed off on the raised part of the chevron and "GG" embossing after about two hours. I had on a cashmere sweater, so if rubbing against cashmere caused the leather failure, that would be scary. I called Gucci the night I bought the bag to let them know the backside of the bag felt rough. I took it back the next morning, the SA said it was normal wear-and-tear. I said, "After a few hours? And, you saw the sweater I had on yesterday." The SA said she'd get one in and swap my bag out. I said I wanted my money back because if the first response is to say their leather losing the coating is normal wear-and-tear on day one, I'm not a Gucci kind of client. She refunded me and I walked away thinking Chanel, Dior and Hermes have problems now and again, but I'm sold on Chanel and its durability. I just dodged a $1800 hit to my wallet. Yikes!

Lesson learned by me. I agree!

A couple months ago I almost bought a leather marmont. I was in a boutique looking at the bag and the sa was going on about how durable the bag is and how she's been using is regularly for the last three months. She ran and got the bag and boy was that a mistake on her part but I was thankful. The top of the bag flap had multiple wrinkles and the sides of the bag were sticking out and the bag just looked old. I asked her if the state of the bag was just from regular use and it is obvious that she too realized bag then that the bag was not in great condition. She then said that she had accidentally sat on her bag one time. Yeah I wasn't buying that. I have owned two other Gucci bags in my lifetime and both had quality issues too. Although Chanel also has its quality issues they don't come close to Gucci. I know everyone is raving about gucci now but I haven't been that impressed. Just my personal opinion.

I agree with you! I had similar thoughts about the ones I saw in store too.

I probably got a bad bag, one in only a few, but I wonder how long the Gucci Marmont bags last at $1,500-$2,000 each. If I spend that amount, it had better last (and look good) for years. I wonder if the mass production of the newly popular Gucci bag will lead to more issues.
This experience makes me appreciate Chanel, with cost increases and all. Yes, I will be buying fewer bags in the future because of cost, but I'm not one to own a lot bags at a time. Price increases will hurt temporarily, but just like the price increases in the past, we keep buying in fear of the next one.

Does anyone know if the Gabrielle hobo will also have a price increase?

I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing a price increase just might pop up within a season or two, if you are in the US. The bag is popular and at a decent price point (for Chanel), so a price increase matching the other increases makes good business sense.
