There hasn't been a price increase in the US in 3 years, which is also making me feel like there should be one soon. I bought the jumbo this year because I figured it should be coming soon. Any higher price and I won't be able to afford it (or want to get it).

Commenting to follow. I'm in Canada but I'm wondering if my next bag should be a Chanel flap because these price increases stress me out and I want one eventually.
Yes! I'm in Canada too and the price increase news from HK really stresses me out....I was planning on just getting my 2 medium flaps from HK but now that they had a 10% increase...it's almost the same price as Canada (not quite..but it's getting there).

I talked to my SA about this last week. I had heard a rumor from another SA in California that there would be a price increase around November, in the USA. My SA said the managers (he is one) hear about the (verified) increases no more than two weeks before they happen, before that, its all rumor. Though they reeeeeeallllly are not supposed to tell people about when a price increase is to occur, SA's do tell their customers who have shown interest in buying a Classic. He has heard, through the rumor mill, maybe October or November. He said to expect approximately a 10% price increase. Yikes!

They increased prices in Europe at the end of May, early June. I was trying to find a WOC in Milan and Germany but never had any luck. So I came home to the US and put myself on the waitlist cause I didn't want to miss out on the current price before the next hike. Luckily it was less than a month.

I meant to say I was in Europe in May and couldn't find my WOC. When I came home to the US, the prices went up in Europe. But the US stayed the same... Which is why I put myself on the waitlist to get it sooner than later.

Holy crap, I've been waiting for a chevron mini but if they increase the prices, I dunno if I will buy one. The prices are so crazy for the not always fantastic quality.

I, too, am eyeing my first classic Chanel bag. I've been doing a lot of research about it online and through these forums. The trend I'm seeing is that prices keep going up significantly (like the flap bag now costs double of what it did when my cousin bought one!) yet the quality is also on a significant downward trend? I don't understand that at all. Am I misinformed about this? Did I read something incorrectly? I don't see how this is a good strategy at all as I'm sure the price/quality ratio would eventually reach a point where it's undesirable to buy the bag anymore. I would appreciate hearing your thoughts about this.

I've been having similar thoughts. I've had several Hermes and a few Chanel bags... I think I'm finished. I love looking at the pretty bags online, the discussions and the excitement of the reveals, but I think I'm done.
My next bag was going to be a Hermes Kelly. I have no interest anymore. I have bags I hope will last me years. That's all I need.
okdot, take a deep breath and perhaps get that Chanel Classic and maybe don't think of it as a first classic Chanel, but an only.
The prices are going crazy! If people keep buying, they'll keep going up. What cracks me up is when less luxurious brands hike their prices, hoping to catch the clientele that doesn't keep up with Chanel and Hermes. Mind you, not because of the lack of finances (in some cases), but because of a refusal to spend $$$$ on a bag five times more than people like me, spent on a first car.:whut:
I can see why Gucci, Fendi and like bags are growing in popularity! They are expensive, but not over the top.
I love the history, heritage, artisan workmanship and more of certain luxury companies,... but I think I'm done. The last time I felt like this, I took a two+ year break from shopping. Besides, I agree, in some cases Chanel has been having issues.
Thank you for letting me rant and not feel alone.:crybaby:
Phew! All better now.

Thanks, I appreciate your reply! I enjoyed your rant too ;) The thing is I'm rather young so $5000 is actually a lot of money for me to spend on a bag. I heard the lambskin is not that fragile if taken care of properly and that Chanel (at least at some point) made bags that were high quality and aged well. Also it's so beautiful and classic it would work with everything I own and almost everywhere I go (sorry cliche but true). I would probably wear it a lot to make it worth getting at this stage in life - but would still have to forgo other purchases to have enough spending money to invest in this bag. If it's going to just fall apart on me in a year or two or if I'm not able to wear it often I would really regret it. Next price increase may take it to $5500 or something which is still maybe tolerable for someone who is willing to pay 5k but I'm looking at Gucci and YSL and now they seem like maybe more 'worth' if they're going to last longer / as long and cost 1/3 or less as much. If Chanel classic flap was the quality / price it was a decade or two ago it wouldn't even be a question. Now thanks for letting me rant haha

I have a nine year old single flap mint condition Jumbo. It's a tank!
I'd like to get a Reissue calfskin medium. My Jumbo is just too large on some days, but I really like the classics.
I have travel/throw around bags, but there is nothing like a classic Chanel.
I've admired the Gucci Marmont- very nice, fun, good price point. But, will I regret not getting that final Chanel?
I like the YSL LouLou bags, too.
I've been eyeing Dior, people swear by that company, but I'm a little trapped right now. There is no Dior near me and my daughter will be keeping me occupied for several weeks/weekends, so I can't fly out to LA, SF, LV or Vancouver, BC to take a look in a boutique.
I have sympathy for you. I got to experience luxury bags at low prices. I have a friend who bought her first Hermes Evelyne for under $800. I remember when Kelly bags started at Chanel seasonal bag prices. Your generation has to pay out a ton of $$$$ from the start. In all good conscientiousness, I cannot tell you what to do. All I can say is find that good bag (or two) and enjoy!
Let us know what you decide.:hugs:
