i am awaiting for your confirmation if you hear anything smudleybear ... i know we don't have any price increase at all on classic flap last year but we did have price increase on mini flap :nogood: ... but we all expected this is going to happen sooner or later anyway
My SA just replied only £10 on other bags. No classics affected. That's what she told me.

I'm bothered every time when I see people compare prices WW without converting to same currency base.

So at current FX rates, if I pick one item from each region:

WOC in U.S. is $2100 pretax which is nearly €2000 (1 euro = $1.09 USD)

Medium boy = $4700 pre tax vs £2690 ($3800) in UK (1 GBP = $1.42 USD)

Jumbo is $5500 in U.S. vs newly increased price in Canada CAD$7050 (~USD$5076)
($1 CAD = $ .72 USD)

I'm not saying all the prices should be the same WW but at current prices, Europe and UK are way cheaper than US though any increase in prices may sound crazy to locals. These are crazy prices we've been paying here in US since Apr 2014!!!!!

And even at newly increase prices, Canada is still cheaper than US at pre-tax basis

That's fine but I honestly did not mean to compare to any other part of the world or annoy anyone, sorry if it came over the wrong way. It's more how I personally see it out here, from a -local- perspective.

Out here (EU) I think another big increase will really scare off a lot of local clientele still left. And I hardly ever hear anyone speak our local language at our boutique or in neighbouring countries, says enough. I do very much understand that at US and some other region's prices, many from outside the EU wait until they go to Europe and get their items there + tax refund as added bonus, that makes it significantly cheaper, even if prices do go up again here. And in that sense, people may argue that we're getting a better deal throughout the year.

All in all, the prices are just getting too crazy worldwide. Am really struggling to justify more (new from boutique) items.

I agree with you helenhandbag, I live in the UK and my best friend is in usa, we both do a similar job, however her salary is much higher and living expenses much lower than mine, so it's all swings and roundabouts really.......the UK price suits my budget and the USA price suits hers [emoji4][emoji4][emoji4][emoji4][emoji4]

Indeed...but just imagine, EUR 2k for a WOC? EUR 3k for a mini? Don't know if I'd be OK with that.

yep - that's what I'm thinking, too... it's really coming closer and closer that I won't buy Chanel bags anymore; maybe ballerinas or earrings, but for sure no more bags... I want the Square Mini in white with silver hw from Act II, but if there's an price increase before, maybe I'll skip that

Oh no...I didn't see anyone comparing apples and oranges this time but every time this topic comes up, they always come up! For example, currencies in Canada, Singapore, HK, Australia and U.S. are all called dollars but the values vary widely. Then I see ppl saying oh jumbo is only $5500 in U.S. but over $7K in my country at my local currency [emoji28]

And no I'm not hoping anyone getting hit with price increase (I'll take a minor decrease from US any time to make it even but I don't think Chanel is gonna do that!! [emoji13])
Not sure if you know this but Hermes had a price increase in EU this year. As Chanel love to stay within certain range with competitors, this along may well mean a price increase despite of all the FX, price harmony or other reasons we are speculating.

With weak currencies, central banks are hoping to attract foreigners to shop more and help local economy so you'll see more and more tourists coming naturally. (In Japan, tourists are buying everything from lux goods to cosmetics/hair dryers and microwaves!!!!!) Once euro goes up (like what happened in U.S. this year) and locals who make in euros feel their wealth go up, they'll go back to stores and tourists will go away as things then become more expensive.

This doesn't sound right...usually the way labor market works is salaries are higher in higher cost regions! Basic rules of economy! Between 2008 and 2014, whenever I went to Europe, the $3 coffee at home would be € 3 (30% more expensive) and £3 (60% more expensive!)!

Salaries in California or coastal US are higher than the rest but we pay way more in living expenses and taxes than places like Texas...and our houses cost at least 2X more if not 3X!!!

UK prices used to be only slightly cheaper than US and higher than EU so I was surprised about the gap of nearly $900 on a $4700 med boy! Most likely this means GBP has been weakening against USD too much as Chanel didn't adjust UK prices last Apr! It used to be £1 = $1.6 and now it's only $1.45!

Also, keep in mind Hermes had a price increase in EU this year already! So I wouldn't be surprised if Chanel increase the prices again in EU in order to stay within a certain range with Hermes

Yes calflu you would think, salaries are higher in higher cost regions! However especially in London, salaries are definitely not high enough to accommodate this.

Also as you said demographics play a huge part, my friend in USA is in Texas but as she's freelance she can take advantage of a much higher salary!

So when you compare her life and standard of living vs mine......the UK prices suit me and US prices suit her [emoji4][emoji4][emoji4][emoji4]

Either way I pray the prices don't become so high, that I can't buy chanel anymore, I've only recently been in a position to splurge on such luxuries [emoji4][emoji4][emoji4][emoji4]

Guess it's different everywhere. But agreed that in UK and parts of EU, we do have a lot more taxes to pay and not so much more or less base salary...where I am, it's a whopping 52%! People are always amazed when I tell them, but it's true. That's like, uhm a Chanel item per month [emoji30]

H did go up recently, but very mildly imo, and some items didn't go up. LV will increase in Feb, my SA has no clue though yet what and by how much, but best guess would be classic Speedy and Neverfull; the items that have become a bit too mainstream. In both cases I don't entirely see Chanel wanting to follow them, but can imagine they see an opportunity with the other premium brands going up. Really just fingers crossed that they keep it reasonable this time.

I agree with your view point!!
Btw: I lived and worked in both places [emoji16]

I visited my local boutique and my SA told me she has not heard any news in regards to a price increase in the USA? My SA has been working at this boutique for a long time and is usually informed pretty well.

I've worked for several muti national companies for over past 10 years and part of my job is planning for salary expense and hiring worldwide. Freelancers are paid higher as they don't have any benefits so it's not a fair comparison. But London and California are both high cost regions where higher salaries don't offset higher cost of living comparing to the rest of the countries.

Honestly I don't think US prices will go up this year but if other luxury brands increase in EU and UK, then Chanel prices will for sure go up!

I was told UK prices only go up slightly for Chanel! Let's hope EU is the case as well!
