Chanel Jumbos going out of style?

I agree. I think it's cyclical. The trend is mini now but big bags will come back.
I started buying chanel in 2011 and it was all about the jumbo and larger bags. Nobody wanted the mini or talked about it like they do now. As the trend started getting smaller, minis got more popular. I dont know if it's the price that just made jumbo not as popular or size but it's my favorite size out of all my purses. I dont think the double flap is heavy at all and it carries just the right amount. I don't think it's that big either. I'm 5'3 0/xs.
The mini was $2000 usd then and jumbo was $3700 or $3900? I got my m/l for $3600 total I think.. so price point wise... I paid the same amount for my jumbo as a new mini now. I think that may have a large part to it.

Id be interested in hearing from someone who is new to chanel. It looks like the OGs like the jumbo alot but we all purchased it when it was much cheaper.
We’re the same size! Haha yeah, I noticed lots of jumbos are in the secondhand market are like 10 years ago, so the OGs are the ones selling theirs. I can see why people are deciding to sell theirs now for ~$5-6k when they bought it at ~$3k.

My first Chanel love was a vintage Jumbo with the big gold CCs! I loved it so much, but then I bought a small classic flap and realized it looked much better on me and I liked the lighter weight of the bag better, so I switched, and this was before mini bags were all the rage. For me personally, I don't carry much, and typically use my small or M/L classic flap for nights out/dinners, not as an everyday bag. The jumbo is more of an everyday bag and I use my LV, Chloe, and other bags for everyday, instead of Chanel.

I do feel, however, that the jumbo is definitely less popular now than years ago. Not out of style, just less popular. It'll come back though and it's definitely not out of style! I mean, it's a Chanel classic flap!

I have a jumbo classic flap, and later added a square mini. I also have a medium Diana which supposedly fits the same as a M/L CF. In terms of what can fit inside and how proportionate the bag looks on me, the jumbo wins. I'm 5'6.5 and a US size 8 so the jumbo just looks really good on my frame. It also gives more more versatility in terms of what I want to bring around with me. My medium Diana fits my daily essentials but that's it. I can't put more than that in there. The jumbo is heavy so I wouldn't be able to wear it around with me if I'm walking 12+ hrs a day, but it's still my favourite size taking into consideration everything else.

I'm fairly new to Chanel, but I was introduced to the jumbo first. I like the idea of it, but everytime I've tried it on, it felt too large on me. I like larger bags just fine, but I think it might just be the particular shape of it?

This was the last time I tried one on (20s navy) and it just felt too big and boxy?

And again, I really like the idea of a bag this size. I'd even been looking into getting a vintage jumbo, but I talk myself out of it whenever I actually wear the bag.

That being said, it's a great bag and I agree with everyone else. It'll come back. We just happen to be on a small bag tend.

I love the jumbo. It is my favourite size too and I have both single and double flaps. I am also partial to minis. Its all or nothing with me! I have quite a few but the jumbo is definitely here to stay. I still stalk and my view is that their prices have sky rocketed on the preloved market too.
Since you have both, do you prefer the single or double flap? Thanks!

Eh I don’t get mini bags. If I can’t fit my phone, what’s the point?
I also don’t really care about trends when it comes to classics like Hermes bags and the Chanel styles. The bags have been around for ages and have staying power no matter what the trend is. Nobody would ever judge for carrying something like that even with a trend of smaller bags. Super mini bags are ridiculous and kind of pointless if you can’t even get essentials in there - ID/Credit Card, keys at minimum.

something like a Fendi monster bags (why did these exist??) or the utility bags currently on trend (LV multi pochette and Prada re-edition - the latter of which I love but do not own) are or will be dated in so many years time and may raise eyebrows.

I also don’t worry about trends so maybe my opinion isn’t really valid anyway.

does anyone have a comparison of how heavy the chanel jumbo is vs other similar-sized bags?
I have other big bags and the Jumbo is heavier for sure. Keep in mind the jumbo is ALL leather, i.e. leather outside and inside, and it has a double flap with a pocket in the front, which means the front and back are double enforced with at least four layers of leather (two layers to make one flap, then repeat for second flap). The chain is also thicker as it is made of solid metal, and it has a thick piece of leather woven through it. The caviar version will be heavier than lambskin too because caviar is thicker and more robust.

I think mini bags are different from micro bags. Mini bags should still be able to fit your phone, it's the micro bags that are really on trend right now and kinda a waste of money (IMHO).

I feel like mini bags are hard to use now because I carry hand sanitizer, a mask, and maybe even sanitizing wipes with me everywhere I go. I only used to carry around phone, keys, wallet, which fit in my mini bags, but add a bottle of hand sanitizer and other PPE and it doesn't fit anymore.

fair point! I’m not sure where the line is crossed frim mini to microbags  small bags are super cute but as you said there are just essentials we need.

i do like my Fendi by the way mini, it fits my iPhone XS Max, wallet, key case w/key fob, a mask, various items about the size of a lipstick, and an external battery charger thing. I keep sanitizer in the car for the most part. That’s about as small is I’d personally go for a bag period unless I know my bf will be the driver and I won’t need the keys. That’s where a lovely Chanel WOC can come in though:graucho:

small enough to be trendy but practical enough to fit your cards, phone, lipstick and other incidentals!

I feel like classics like the jumbo will never fully go out of style to the point where people would want to sell them at rock bottom prices. I think that the price increases have a role in that as Chanel uses the price increases to guarantee that CF's will also be not as easily attainable. For me, that keeps me from selling my jumbo, even though i'm not using it at the moment, because I know I would not be able to buy one that I love just as much new without having to deeply think about it. I will say that I'm not into the black caviar CF anymore since it seems a little too common for my liking.
