Cavier leather is actually grained/stamped/embrossed calfskin. Basically, it's the same leather. Calfskin is called as it is, coz it doesn't go through the same treatment as cavier leather to give you the grainy texture.

Calfskin is still pretty hardy.

Really? But more susceptible to cuts, scratches? What if people have sweaty hands? Will the calfskin look worn out?

From a pure luxury viewpoint, cavier leather are actually the worst buy as it is treated leather. Think saffiano leather.
If you look at leather goods from top fashion houses like Dior, Hermes, Bogetta and even LV's higher end line, the least treated leather are usually the most expensive. Like lambskin, taurillion, basically as 'raw' as possible.
At the same time, these bags require higher maintenance.
Chanel lambskin and calfskin actually cost more than cavier, until they harmonised the prices a few years ago.

Hence, many fashion houses come up with various treatments, like Chanel with its cavier, to give calfskin a more grainy texture, thus making the leather goods more durable. Or Prada with its signature Saffiano leather.

Sorry, I'm digressing here.
But yes calfskin is still pretty sturdy but you probably need to take a little extra care than you usually do with cavier goods. Even my cavier wallet looks quite sad now after thrashing around in my bag.

Enjoy the leather goods, sometimes usage can add character to your collection. Not to mention stories behind that scratch, that wet mark on the bag

I love your response! Very informative and I'm looking from a different perspective now. I'm gonna love all my bags and SLGs. I truly appreciate the process in the creation of these crafts.

People who work at bags cleaning shop told me caviar is more difficult to repair or touch than lambskin if there's a wear and tear. For more serious wear and tear situation, sometimes caviar can never be able to repair. [emoji28]
