Chanel boutiques getting rid of waitlists

Chanel doesnt care, they will sell to whomever, all they care is about money and selling to anyone who can buy their products. They dont care if you spend a l0t at their stores. Shame on Chanel for even letting resellers buy as much as they do because the regular clients ought to get 1st dibs. Resellers are greedy too!!! Weed them out!

I gave my cc number to an SA at a standalone boutique this week to reserve a bag for 21a. I was told that the new policy with reserves is a commitment to buy. She also had to email the manager for approval first for me to take a reserve spot. This process has definitely escalated quickly... within 2 years I went from “I have to pick between at least 2 different options at the store” to “well let me at least get a few pics of the bag from the SA first” to “okay, I at least have to see a real life version of the bag on social media before ordering” to “ok, the stock photo looks really good in my head” and finally “I have this stock photo that I hope matches to my reserve description”.... I don’t like ordering something sight unseen but love rose gold and don’t want to miss out!

I’ve always reached out to the SA to find select items but in the past couple years, everything I’m looking for is gone. I assumed I was not getting on waitlists early enough. So I’m pleased to hear about no waitlist at one of two stores I visit.
Can I ask which store you visited that said they weren’t doing waitlists? Trying to get a feel if this is going to apply to all stores lol

I have to agree with you. Now I go off photos I see here or on social media and immediately try to get on a reserve! But if that is going away....I’m not sure how I’m going to get these bags. It’s not like I can take work meetings from the queue outside a Chanel store every season launch day.

trying to imagine myself on a zoom call with the Chanel store in the background. too funny haha!

exactly, I wish there was a way to prove we are real customers. Like, I’ve never sold a bag. An SA can come to my house today and see every bag on my profile on display in my closet to verify me if that was an option lol
Selling a bag you no longer enjoy or that doesn't work for you is not being a fake customer, it is being smart and mindful of your spending. I have loved Chanel for years and took me a while to realise that i am a classic flap kind of girl, and the medium size works best for me and during that process i had to sell some bags. You may love caviar when you are young and later on you appreciate lambskin more, you may hate silver hw now and later on you gold hw is all you wear. People change and have the right to change their mind and that doesnt mean they are worse or better customer than another person who made a choice and stuck to it.

Agreed- I think we are referring to people who buy bags to flip immediately for a profit. Not people who decide to sell because the bag didn’t work for them and realize that after some time.
But if a person is buying and choosing to resell the bag within the 14 day return period the store offers (or even before the season that the bag launched in is over), especially at higher than retail, then they are the worst kind of customers. Greedy. Resellers.

See, to me, having to reserve everything so far in advance actually just makes the whole reseller problem worse!! Information is so limited that you have to follow resellers/PS because a lot of the time they’re the only ones who have pics ahead of time! If you wait for everyone else’s orders to start coming in or try to go see a bag in person, everything is liable to be gone already. And if you’ve been seeing certain bags over and over on the reseller accounts, the hype they create might be enough to make you cave and pay over retail to buy from them because you feel like you have to have it. And then that sends a message to resellers that their business model is viable, so they keep finding ways to snatch up all the bags while those of us who are honest consumers are stuck playing by the (increasingly complicated) rules. :annoyed:

completely agree! So many pros and cons to the reserve list and the biggest con is that resellers can get on it early and take all the spots...and get their buyers to do the same! But if I really really want a bag, I’m just not content with having to play probabilities and luck. On the other hand, it makes it harder for resellers too so I don’t hate the lottery idea.

Is chanel getting more popular or just producing less to create a sense of scarcity. I’m thinking the later.
I think a bit of both—i feel like covid definitely fueled some of this since more people have discretionary income to spend along with the factories having less capabilities to produce…creating the perfect storm lol

I put my name on waiting list for the mini blk handle bag few places few month ago and still never be able to get a bag.
But yesterday they open lottery for this bag. And I put my name down in very last minute and got lucky
So after all I think is not bad idea to dawn to get the bag. You still get a chance to get lucky to have it !
