A fellow member was asking about wear so sharing pics after using my c22 for 2 months. I use it frequently. I don’t baby my bags. I don’t load it up (wallet, keys, umbrella, AirPods, sanitizer, phone, reading glasses and /or sunnies, maybe a small bottle of water).

So if you take a closer look at the inner edges you can see that there has been some peeling? You can see it a lot in your second photo and is just starting to make its way towards the outer edge...

I‘d still argue that the peeling ppl mention is not the leather but the coat.

It shouldn’t happen either way don’t get me wrong but people use this as a proof to call it bonded leather. I think it’s the coating that is flaking because of the metal rubbing.

Would be interested in how they approach this in the future. There is no way that this won’t happen to all of the 22s sooner or later.

Oh I agree. That’s what I added that ? Just because I didn’t have a better word. Either way when I showed my SA she told me to send it back immediately and Chanel refunded me.

As mentioned, I had some slight peeling issues so I used Saphir Canadian (black) on it. They have different colors as well.

It seals the leather, nourishes it and also restores its color. I thought that this might be good on high stress areas.

First picture is the cream, second picture is after application and third picture is after polishing. (I know some people probably roll their eyes at taking care of this issue instead of bringing it to the boutique but I felt that this might be an easy fix).

Thanks for sharing! Your replies are always informative and I love that you show pictures + mod shots.

I've always wanted to try the Saphir Renovateur cream to precondition high stress areas like corners on a bag but worried it'll soften the leather/bag too much. I wonder if putting this on before using the 22 bag will cause less peeling, or make it not peel as fast? The post where I first read about Saphir was someone using the example of putting hand lotion on to prevent dry/cracking skin. Makes me wonder if you can also put it on back of classic flaps / reissues / boy bags where a line in the leather forms from opening & closing.

Yes I can see the peeling in both pics. I made sure I took the pic in bright afternoon sun so people can see what they are getting if they do decide to get one.

Fwiw I love using the Saphir Médaille d'Or (wax and/or cream) on the my shoes to protect them from light surface scratches / scuffs. if I accidentally scuff the leather I can just buff it and it’ll be gone.. the only downside is that it significantly alters the finish of the leather, giving it a very noticeable gloss/shine. So it’s a no if you want to keep your matte leathers matte (but the 22 isn’t matte)

love Kuschelnudde’s solution. if you’re open to diy/hacking it, I think it might be a viable option.

I think that these issues are inevitable because the cream cannot prevent these mechanical processes (abrasion from chains, bending leather) from happening. It can just nourish and restore the leather once it happens.

On top of that you shouldn’t use it too often and sparingly. Especially the Saphir Cremes… on my first try with them I used too much and that became apparent once the leather got wet.

Hello,

the coating of the leather on the inside of the handles is also peeling off on my bag. I have now sent them to the boutique. They told me they will send them to Paris and that it may take 6 to 8 weeks. How is your experience? Will I get a credit then?
