Hi ladies, I'm in the market for a real fur vest. I live in Los Angeles. The main ones I see in store are rabbit and fox vests. What is the difference between the furs? I know I may be asking this question in the wrong thread, but didn't see where else to post it in. Feel free to send me a personal message, if this is the wrong thread.

Thinking I'm staying away from rabbit fur. The last one I had shedded way to much for me. I read online that rabbit fur isn't that duriable like the other furs.
If I were buying rabbit I would definitely buy from a furrier because some rabbit (but not all) sheds. With other shorter haired furs you simply cannot go wrong with mink. Beaver is also nice. For longer haired furs fox, coyote or raccoon are all fine. For higher end furs sable and lynx are incredible and, finally chinchilla is just amazing to touch but it needs to be well cared for because it is rather fragile. With the other furs they don't need caring for and, as a furrier once pointed out to me .... will probably outlive me!!

I went to Nordies last night to see the fox vest in person and I didnt like it. It was brown but had some gray and hair hairs in different spots. I'd prefer a black or dark brown fur vest. I'm going today to Neimans to see if they have the black vest.

I saw this pic, but the quality looks cheap, lol. I went to NM yesterday and they didn't have the one I saw online in stock. I walked around and saw a beautiful Theory grey fox fur that I loved but, I prefer the vest to be black. I then went to Saks next door and tried on a gorgeous Elie Tahari beige fox fur vest. Very nice, but I think I'll get more usage out of a black vest. Was talking to my mom and she reminded me that my aunt sells furs in Chicago for over 20 years. I'm going to check with her to see if she has a black fox fur hip length vest and see what she has. I totally forgot that she has been selling furs since I was 10
. If she doesn't have what I want then I'll probably end up ordering the black fur vest from NM. If I do not like it, I can always take it back. I'm going to visit my aunt in Chicago in a couple of weeks, so I might get her to take me to her store, so I can see what they have.
