Each ‘turn’ is only 90 degrees but I can either ‘complete the turn’ to open and close or turn and turn back on itself to open and close, so basically slot aligned with screws is locked and slot perpendicular is open, irrespective of which direction clockwise or counter I’ve turned the screw [emoji4]

Yep!

I am about to turn 40 in a month, and I think I may want the love bracelet. I went to the store in Short Hills, NJ and tried on the regular size and the smaller one. The smaller one felt better on my wrist (size 16), but I am worried I will feel like I cheaped out with the smaller one and that I will regret getting the smaller.

Any similar stories?

It's a personal choice, but I don't care for the thin if it's the only one. I'd start with the traditional then add a thin if you want another one. You'll forget you have it on very quickly, thin or traditional.

I love my small love. I think it has enough presence and I’ve certainly gotten a lot of compliments. I don’t have a small wrist and am average height and weight and it’s fine on me. No regrets...and I also got it when I turned 40 earlier this year. Do what feels right for you :)

I think you need to get the one you love the most. I tried on both & the thinner Love looked perfect on me. I haven't regretted it for a second. I think if you buy the thinner one but your heart wants the regular size then you'll always have a bit of regret IMO

For me, I prefer the original sized Love. It just has more "presence", and it's a classic... However, if you FEEL like the smaller love is the right fit for you and your lifestyle, go with that one. :)
