It depends on the density and type of metal. I wear a ton of jewelry and only my bracelets and "wiglet" go off...go figure!
ya it's strange, you never know what's going to set the security off. When my sister and I flew this past weekend she was pulled to the side. according to security she has a flagged chemical on her hands and suitcase. they wouldn't tell us what the chemical was but they asked her if she was in contact with:
special military opps
scientific chemicals
or if she cleaned her bathroom this morning (it was 5:30am)
she said no to all of the above and was eventually cleared...but she was just like wtf, and what did I touch this morning!?!?

It's my orgnanice sunblock (powder based) which has a small "spring" inside (you press a button to release some powder to the brush). The lady security said she's never seen those and she was curious what it was LOL...

i just flew a few weeks ago and had no problem going thru security wearing my white gold love bracelet and platinum wedding set.

haha it was! I was trying to keep a straight face and act serious during the questioning and the pat downs, watching my sister answer questions about whether or not she's a military special opps (she's 22 and dresses like a hipster) was pretty priceless
