Cartier Earrings Thread

These are not called butterfly backs. They are called La Pousette and on occasion I have heard them called guardian backs. Butterfly backs are are regular friction backs. I don’t know why online wouldn’t know this. In boutique they certainly do. Sigh.
I had never seen, and when googled, any Cartier earrings with the term or visual appearance of traditional "butterfly backs" which thew me off when she said they could offer me those in place. Again, glad this thread is here!

Sorry I meant over the phone. Not online. But my point is why does Cartier help line so often give wrong information! The boutique SAs definitely have better information and help in general.

You shouldn’t have to teach Cartier the difference over the phone. Lol. But I do wonder if they get clear on what you are talking about that they might be able to provide it. I know at VCA they can replace the la pousette backs (on sweets for example or the perlee studs) with regular friction backs even though they are not standard on any VCA earring. May be worth another try?

OK so I just heard back from Cartier and what their workshop is calling butterfly backs (after the Ambassador looked into it when she said this morning that the ones I have are butterfly backs and I questioned that) are what I initially thought, so NOT the ones that came with my earrings or the ones pictured here. It would have been helpful if they had initially sent me a photo and if they all were familiar with them!

I'll update when I have more info regarding whether or not it's truly complimentary.

Yes, this was what was frustrating-- that I wasn't sent a photo and that then another rep said I have butterfly backs when I described what I already had (I said they are flat discs with two places two push in). Now I have a photo from them, so that part is solved!

I'm so curious what they will do! When I asked for one backing to be replaced they said I would have to return the earrings in their entirety as they don't have "spare parts." Like no one has ever lost one of the backings! They then said the earrings were no longer in stock so I'd have to wait for replacements so I kept them. I would have preferred to mail back the one backing to be replaced but that was not an option.

I was told at one point (have already spoken to three different people), that I would have to send the earrings back with the backings which is annoying!!

I did just hear this via email:

"As discussed, we were advised by our workshop team that if this is a first time service and the posts of your earrings are not damaged, the service will be complimentary."

But it took me numerous phone calls, polite protestations, sending them their own website statement to get to this point not to mention having to wait two weeks to be given incomplete/confusing information.

I am still awaiting a callback from Leadership to make sure I'm clear on the entire process. Will update after that!

I have the xs d'Amour (Legers when I bought them) and they didn't come with butterfly backs. I wonder why not?
I was also wondering when I saw your comment. I am currently on holiday but can double check. But I am quite sure it is butterfly backs as I was thinking abwesring them in a row with 2 other esrrings and was afraid it could get too tight because the back is quite big. And it is for sure no pearl closure (or how you call it)

Meanwhile I still have not received a response from their leadership team.

I want to get confirmation and a step-by-step process and timeline from someone there vs different things from three different Ambassadors.

Was at work and just saw this. Wow, what a saga! It shouldn’t be this difficult to have a company honour their own ding dang policy. Sorry that you have had to deal with this headache.

Yes, so the backings that you have are definitely not butterfly backings. I actually requested those backings, but I guess they did not understand (I asked to have the same backings as the larger Love studs). I will take a photo of my backings and post them for you. I know that another member received the La Pousette backings (@Teerakrainbow), but another member also got the same backings as I did (@pwecious_323). Clearly no one knows what their own policies are - and it seems like the workshop(s) don’t always know either!

Good luck and keep us posted!

This!! And thank you!

I did think that I would at least hear back from leadership as I requested. I sent a follow-up email this afternoon summarizing everything up until this point and repeated my request to be contacted by someone in leadership. Not long after I got a text from the first Ambassador who stated she could assist me further. That's exactly what I don't want, especially since she told me I'd have to pay for shipping and insurance when a previous Ambassador said I would not?!?!?!

I can't with this.

As much as I want Cartier butterfly backs, and it's something to which I'm entitled per their policy, what I've experienced thus far makes me very uneasy about sending my earrings in with the backings. This alone isn't worth the aggravation. I wish I could just send in the backs for an exchange.

Meanwhile I have an anniversary coming up this fall and will definitely not be shopping Cartier.

Here are the photos. They are a bit dark (let me know if you need lighter photos). Any updates?
