Not true. The backings can be changed. This is their policy. It is literally stated on their website. And I had my earrings changed. I purchased two single Love earrings and had the screw-ball backings changed to pushbacks/butterfly backings.

I'm really glad you pointed this out!

I have been struggling with the backings for my Legers/d'Amore XS earrings. I had thought they would get easier to put on over time but they aren't at all. It hurts my fingers and the backs keep falling out of my hands so I stopped wearing them. Then I remembered reading this post!

I contacted the 800 number since I don't live near a boutique. My wonderful former SA left last year so I am working with someone new. I was told that it's only complimentary for the first thirty days and that shipping and insurance would not be included, and I would have to send the earrings back along with the backings. I mentioned reading this policy on the website as far as being complimentary and she said she would look into it and get back to me. That was three weeks ago. Today she texted to say they could do butterfly backings (which I would like) but made no mention if it would be complimentary. I asked her politely again if I would be charged and I have not heard back. I then texted this policy to her.

I am not happy that I'm getting a runaround. It's not what I expect from Cartier.

Update: Now I'm speaking with someone on the phone after selecting the adjustments/repair option. I am told that switching the backings of the earrings aren't included in the complimentary policy, and that it's a case-by-case basis. I challenged this and said that the policy doesn't state that at all. They will get back to me...

I think you might have better luck in a store. One backing came broken with my small love hoops and I couldn’t even get customer service to replace it. Ended up living with it. Ridiculous right?

Thank you...if you have the time and don't mind, could you please share a pic of a backing?
Sure. Oddly they aren't interchangeable. The posts on the love earrings are larger than the JUC. I thought I could share the backings but I can't as the holes are different sizes.

For some reason the ones on the love earrings are much harder to use. Often frustrating. The JUC are easier. I'll take a comparison shot a bit later. I'm now curious if they are the same size....

Ok, now I'm really annoyed! But not at you, obviously!!!! Thank you for posting this! My earrings came with these, I didn't realize they are calling those butterfly backs. It's ridiculous that they would offer me the same backings I already have as a replacement and maybe at a cost to me!
Hmm.... maybe I'm misunderstand the butterfly backs?? I only have those and then earrings that clip on from Cartier...

I agree they can be a total pain to put on especially on the love hoops. If I'm short on time there is no way I'm dealing with them and would never in a million years take them off in public or outside b/c they are too easy to mishandle.

I just called them and described the backings that came with mine and was told yes, they are butterfly backs (same as yours).

Now I'm waiting for a callback from someone in Leadership at my request.

Honestly, I never expected this from them.

I think the ball screw backs might be the only other option from what I've read here. It seems like a lot of people switch those out for the butterfly backs. The good thing is that once the butterfly backs are on, they aren't going anywhere!

Could you try some regular gold backs from another pair of earrings? You wouldn't have the same security but it might make them easier for you to wear. Just a thought.

These are not called butterfly backs. They are called La Pousette and on occasion I have heard them called guardian backs. Butterfly backs are are regular friction backs. I don’t know why online wouldn’t know this. In boutique they certainly do. Sigh.

I did try gold earring backings from other earrings I have but the posts on the Cartier earrings are too thick to fit into them.

Depending on how Cartier responds, I may end up going to a local jeweler to see if they have ones that will fit.
