thanks for the reply.
I took a picture just now near the window. This is the latest shade of my carnelian. Can you please tell me what shade do you see? I think my eyes are sometime deceiving me.

i see burgundy in the darker light and a bit of browny-orange in the lighter setting. not sure carnelian will ever be a bright blue tone red. this color is very regal. i do love it i just am no longer sure it does anything for me. i'm pale and already have onyx.

i also like onyx and i'm planning to get it next but i'm thinking the black stones might look somewhat similar with my carnelian being both too dark. do you think onyx and carnelian might look the same from afar, certain angle? TIA.

yes. i can vouch for this. i have a 10 onyx and a 20 carnelian (which i will be exchanging when my SA allows me to come in) and they are very similar in certain lighting. the difference can be subtle.

does van cleef use some special indoor light in their boutique? inside the store, my carnelian looks bright red with a little tinge of orange which i prefer. but once i went outside the store and home, the stones appear to look much darker and almost brownish. that's why i asked earlier if carnelian changes color after some time and wear. btw, i bought mine few months ago and haven't use it much so it cannot be due to wear.

Very interesting! Your pictures inside VCA look exactly like the ones in their website. Carnelian looks brighter red. I love yours!

thanks, that's why i chose this bracelet because the color looks similar as the website. but unfortunately, it looks different in normal lighting and outdoors. i understand certain angles and light can change the stones' color and i've researched that no carnelian is true bright red unless it's fake or color-treated. so i guess i have to love mine and accept the true nature of carnelian stones.

I'd like the carnelian bracelet if I can find the right color. I do think a 20 in the solid yellow gold would be a more versatile piece. Then one could collect all the stone bracelets set in yg!

because of clothing or skin tone?

I would say I look best in black, white, royal blue, turquoise, hot pink, red...jewel tones, basically. I never wear orange, brown, or green because they look bad on me. I can do teal, so a green that has blue is more possible, and malachite usually doesn't lean towards the yellow side. So other than black or white, I don't really have clothes for malachite or the gray mop, either. The onyx, white MOP, blue, and red carnelian work best for me as far as stones go. I'd wear those more than any other colors.

i'm pale, pinkish undertones, freckles, black hair and green eyes. most of my wardrobe is black or camel or jewel tones. i think malachite would look fantastic. but i wonder, based on how i felt about the malachite 10 motif when i tried it on last year, if it is just too literally st patricks day. green clover!?

I do think it would be beautiful with your green eyes! I don't consider malachite a neutral, though. I think it is gorgeous but there are other colors I could use more. You'll just have to see how you feel when you try it on. I either get a feeling of LOVE or I don't. (However, I love most of what is in that store!!) If I have doubts, then I try to wait on that piece. One thing is for sure, you'll love something!

I'll add one thought. I think the malachite would be so beautiful paired with the original solid gold, but I'd worry about the malachite getting scratched since it is so soft. It would be quite expensive to have to replace 20 motifs someday. Please know that I am certainly not trying to be negative. I am just expressing my own concerns. I have similar concern for my lapis bracelet, but it is a piece I will only wear on special occasions and never stack it. The malachite earrings would be beautiful on you being closer to your green eyes!

thanks, no negativity, i appreciate the "real talk". 1) try on a brighter carnelian 2) try on a darker malachite 3) try on hammered yellow gold. i am sure one of those 3 will speak to me. i do want something that will pop. i also want something that will go beautifully with my onyx and guilloche pieces. it's definitely something that will have to be tried on. i feel like aside from the hammered gold, all the stones, including even the guilloche, have some sensitivity that will result in high maintenance. what would be interesting is seeing some photos of well worn malachite to see how its held up.
whether its terribly practical or not, if i think the malachite is beautiful and lights up my face i will make it work as a neutral! :)

i bought the carnelian 20 over the phone with my SA and my SA ordered me the BTF ring in gmop and onyx so both those blind orders wound up not to my liking. must remain patient and obsess online!

Not sure if you have seen this thread, but there are some pictures of some malachite with loss of polish or discoloration. Some people have had no issues, though.
