Could you take a look at the bidding history. What is up with these eBay ids? Are they fake? I've been seeing them a lot lately.

They're not fake- it's a security measure to protect the buyers. Only part of the username shows up.

If you're talking about the ** then it's ebay's way of protecting bidders' identities. Here is what they said:

eBay has changed how bid history information is displayed for higher-priced items. To help keep the eBay community safe, enhance bidder privacy, and protect our members from fraudulent emails, only you and the seller of the item can view your User ID in bid history. Other members will see anonymous names, such as x***y.

Thank you. I'll have to look into this. I know you are no longer to view bidder histories and see what items people bid on.

It has to do with a dollar value more than anything. They do it mostly on expensive items. I am glad it is safety for bidders, but being able to see who was bidding or what they had bid on before sometimes helped me make an educated bid. (you know if I wasn't sure I knew what I was doing, someone more educated that was bidding did....LOL)

This protects the identities of the buyers. But it's nice to be able to see the stars they have.
