I cringe to think how poor the quality would be compared to the initial release of this bag. Believe me, on my 2000 year bag the vachetta bottom is THICK, the mono canvas is so much more firm then today...I can only imagine the floppiness of the re-release and for $1500 or more...
I was thinking the same thing too.....I'm falling in love with vintage again. The older LV's with the thicker leather, real brass, thicker canvas....

Been *dying* for the alto for years, how much do the preloved ones typically go for? (in really good condition) does anyone know? also is this bag faked a lot? I am so paranoid about getting fakes with second hand louis'

I have a special order cabas Alto in damier ebene, as well as the cabas mezzo in monogram, and the cabas piano in monogram! It's a great collection, but I must admit the Alto is my Favorite!

The Cabas alto does not have a zip top. The Cabas piano & Cabas Mezzo do. Hope this answers your question

Hey there! The Alto is a great bag! I have one that is pre-loved! It's safe to say many LV bags have replicas and you can find any fake on anything. But go to reputable sources and also have them authenticated or assessed by an LV SA if you have good rapport with one.
Preloved: Now we know that huge vachetta bottom will be hard to be perfect without a heavy price. But typically one that isn't so dirty on the bottom with aged patina, Ive seen around 1100-1300. I got mine for 1200 with some tiny spots on the bottom. New conditions I've seen for almost 2K or more! The cleaner the bottom the more money you'll have to pay I've noticed.
With that said, they are a great bag. Thick double lined canvas and holds so much stuff! Hope this helps! Aloha!
Thank you! I dont necessarily want perfect condition, just not too much damage. I found one for $1000 which is pretty much as new (one small water stain only) but even that is a little too much for me :cry: My best bet is probably to save like mad then! hehehe!
Oh good! hmmm I have seen some with dirty patina for 800-900. Try malleries? haha But yea i would recommend saving up for a better condition one so you can dirty it yourself if it happens. At least you can start off with a someone good condition Alto right?! I know these bags come and go pretty often due to the whole Angelina jolie ad as well. You would love it! Great travel piece!

My s/a offered me a 2012 MIF Cabas Mezzo today and I'm just not sure if I should buy it. She knows my taste too well though and is always looking out for MIF bags for me. A new bag was not on my radar since I just bought the Palermo GM but the Cabas seems to be calling my name now. I have the Totally MM and feel the Cabas is the same shape w/out the outside pockets and a vachetta bottom. Hopefully they won't look too similar.
She has it on hold for me until Wednesday of next week. Gotta give this some thought since I can't go try it on but I just love a good tote bag so may have it sent.

I am in a similar situation. I have a Palermo GM but keep dreaming of Cabas Mezzo. And I also have it on hold until Wednesday. Can't decide if I really need it. It's sort of like my Palermo in size and look. It would be just another tote bag. My brain tells me I should diversify my collection and go with something else. But my heart sinks at the idea that the inventory of Cabas is running low and if I don't buy it now I would have to calm my craving for this bag with a used one.
