@OBXGirl At least when you take a road trip to Tyson's you will have three places to shop in the same area so I am sure you would find something to your liking...maybe too many ;)

Last year I bought a PM from eBay but the seller sent me a fake (although the photos in her listing were of a genuine LV bag). I had a LOT of hassle trying to get it sorted but eventually got my money back. I should have insisted on seeing a photo of the date code before agreeing to buy so at least I’d have had some way of easily comparing what I’d bought against the pics. I only noticed because the LVs on the one she sent were misaligned slightly but, in the listing pics, they were straight.

Despite that, I do buy and sell a number of items from FB pages and have never had an issue.

Buying preloved is good for out-of-stock items and if you can get brand new with >10% off the RRP it can be a great way to cash in on someone else’s mistake buys. It is all about being knowledgable about what you are buying and also using common sense with ‘investigating’ the seller.

That sounds like a huge pain! Can you share the seller's name?

I would be wary of buying a wallet pre-owned. Wallets get a lot of wear and possible stretching of card slots. I am not opposed to buying pre-owned overall, btw. But for wallets, either buy new or be extremely picky!

i do both :) depends on the piece and the price/condition I can find it in. I do enjoy perusing the second hand sites, like fashionphile, rebagg ebay etc. Its always nice to be able to save a bit of money if you can find a piece that you're looking for, in good condition on a resale site!! I don't have a huge collection, and i bought probably 2/3 of my things new, but i definitely have a handful i got pre loved.

I buy LV brand new from the store, because I am crazy enough to think the prices are "reasonable". Which basically means I have been brainwashed over time, haha! Same with Gucci. Chanel, however, I will not buy new as a matter of principle. 6-7k for one bag is ridiculous to me. So I buy new slgs in the boutique, but carefully stalked and researched the two Chanel flaps I have bought from Fashionphile. Most everyone has that spending zone that they refuse to exceed!

You saved 75% on a LV bag that wasn’t fake/so used it might as well be trash in the resale market?

Sorry but I don’t believe you.

It's true and can be done. A few weeks ago I bought 3 preloved vintage Speedy bags online. Two were from eBay. My Speedy 30 was $322 and my mini was $220. My 35 which I purchased on another site was $289. Now ... these are not perfect bags, I am taking the time to clean and refurbish them. They are also not new, they are late 90s - early 2000s. So it is possible.

I just took a look at some of my pre-owned purchases to see what actual savings I got off of retail + tax and here's what I found in my own personal collection:

Items that are still available for purchase via LV:
  • Speedy 25 Classic in monogram - saved 75%
  • PM Agenda in monogram - saved 70%
  • Toiletry 19 - saved 55%
  • 6 ring key holder in monogram - saved 35%
  • Mini pochette in damier ebene - saved 30%
  • Speedy 35 B in damier ebene - saved 15%
All of these items are in great to excellent condition, but pre-owned.

The following are items that have been discontinued or no longer available:
  • Cabas Rivington bag which retailed for $1610 when it was available - saved 45%
  • Noe in Epi leather, which right now is available in the petit Noe style via LV and retails for $2000, I purchased my larger Noe in Epi with a savings of 80% off retail.
It's definitely possible to save money, but you have to get your stuff authenticated and be willing to search through many frogs to get to the prince ;)

Excellent points. I also bought a mono mini pochette accessories and mono pochette from a private seller earlier this year. I paid $250 for both, and they currently retail for $310 and $525 respectively. So I paid only 30% of retail for both.
