Buying CHANEL at the current prices/increases

I find this personally true. For my regular life with my regular job with my low key self with social circles that don’t care for luxury. I find wearing my bags limiting to… when I’m shopping or the random dinner. It’s exactly like when I look at those gorgeous dresses influencers are shilling and I’m like cool, I would love to wear that and look fabulous, but like. Where to? LOL.
Shoot, I don't need anywhere to use my bags. I wear my bags at home around the house, lol ! My fiancé and my son pick a Chanel bag for me for movie nights. I load it up with movie theatre candy and we go down to the basement and then I snuggle up with my bag, lol. Last week we watched a James Bond movie so my son thought my black and white sequin bag would be the right choice since bond wears a black and white tuxedo in the movie. Another night we watched Interstellar so they picked my metallic silver since it's sort of space age looking, lol.

What a fun idea!

I've decided I'm going to wear my bags, including Chanel, to do almost whatever I want. So, daily dog walks? Yes! Grocery store? Sure! No point in them sitting in the closet. They make me happy when I get to wear them. I will pick bags with no logos (e.g. Bottega) if I'm in a sketchier part of town though.
Great!
Bags we love meant to be used as much as possible and we should enjoy wearing them .😊

I'm more of a mid-range than luxury bag buyer but always had it in my mind that a Chanel flap was like the "ultimate". Looked at a pristine vintage Chanel flap in Fenwick a couple of weeks ago at £7995, had a good look inside and out, and it was lovely but also....just a bag. I don't think I'd ever justify it even though I could save and buy one if I wanted to, my first, second and third cars all cost less than that (I am 40 though!).

I think I'm just happy at mid-range and would rather spend the money on our property or travel expenses - but totally get buying one if you are financially able to do all of the above and it not make a dent.

The country club scene is not reality and much of that is a keeping up with the joneses scene where people often spend beyond their means. We used to belong to a club but it was so artificial couldn’t stand it.

There’s an article in the WSJ today about the luxury companies needing to ensure the middle class is included as part of their corporate plans. According to the article 330 million of them send less than 2000 a year and make up half of luxury spend. I’m guessing with Chanel’s huge makeup line they can continue to target the middle class and continue to raise prices on bags and Rtw assuming the very wealthy will keep buying.
I think that’s exactly the plan for Hermes, chanel, dior, brunello. They don’t have diffusion lines, so they need the middle segment and up to have ready access to sunglasses l, make up, fragrance.

I don't think luxury industry can rely solely on the super rich. After all there are way fewer super rich people than the average working class. Don't know any super riches, but can sort of understand their frustration that the chanel purses are not exclusive because too many people have it. But honestly, the luxury bags are not really scarce, luxury industry is just creating scarcity by high price tags. So if I were super rich, I would rather choose something else to show off exclusivity if I need to.
My SA mentioned to me that some (very rich) customers are happy about the price increases especially for the classic flap because "too many" people bought it. It is indeed very interesting that Chanel will open a brand new shop (3 floors) in about 1.5 years in Zurich. They currently have a small one (and only one floor). They see a potential and enough people are still buying.
I personally won't buy anymore classic flaps because it became ridiculous expensive.

Guess what, I can't let go of the idea of going into a chanel boutique and buy something new. Recently I'm considering buying a new wallet/cardholder that fits my needs better so I think why not try chanel, at least SLG won't made a dent. I want something in bright color and lambskin. But there just aren't many wallets/cardholders in lambskin, almost everything is in caviar leather. I looked around in the store, sadly, nothing gives me a spark. I know I've always been very specific in my clothes and purses, but does anyone else also feel chanel purses nowadays are very uninspired? I hope it's a cycle and in the next peak of the fashion design (hopefully in a few years), there will be some new talented designer at chanel who brings us something beautiful!

Why does it have to be Chanel? When one door closes, another opens.

Other top-notch brands known for great shoulder bags include Gucci, YSL, Prada, and Bulgari.
It boils down to preference of aesthetics. I like that certain aesthetic of Chanel's 2.55 and the soft cozy tweed texture in their clothes. Each fashion house has their unique style and code.

Agreed. I need to have this mindset too. Otherwise they are just sitting in my closet.....collecting dust...

I think this statement couldn’t be more true. Some people hype these items up far past what they are in reality. At the end of the day a bag is made to accessorize an outfit or to carry your things so assigning it any greater value could lead to disappointment.

Like you, I’ve been lusting for Chanel for a really long time. For about 5 years now actually but could never “justify” pulling the trigger for all the reasons you have mentioned. It’s not a need but a want, I keep on reminding myself. It’s an itch I couldn’t scratch so I had to compromise. I had to think what I wanted, set a budget and do the hard work of researching for the best deals.

Just this week, I bought 2 preloved bags in excellent condition. One is vintage 1996 CF Medium lambskin GHW and the other is CF 2018 Jumbo lambskin GHW both from reputable sellers and bags have been authenticated by the best in the business, Zeko😀. Best of all,it just cost less than the price of a brand new Jumbo (combined)! I feel like I hit a jackpot!

I’m glad I waited. Of course we all have different situations in life but the most important thing is, we enjoy what we have and we can live with the choices that we make.

The purchases threads are very quiet these days. I remember when I first joined tpf there would be several pages on these threads with many new buys. Not anymore. I can only assume that many like the OP do not want to spend extortionate amounts on a single handbag. My last purchase was 2017. It was like a trance I recovered from. I don't see me going back.
