Sometimes what we think we want may not be what we actually want. Have you shopped in store? Tried the bag on a few times? Thought about how this bag would fit into your life and how often you would actually use it? How you would use it even 20 years from now? Is it really your style? Would you carry on the shoulder? Crossbody?
social media and ads have a way of influencing people into thinking they want something when it’s not practical suitable etc. I have a checklist I go through before I make a luxury purchase which also includes cost. And I think about alternatives. Of course there are some cases where you won’t find something comparable.
There have been cases where I thought something was highly desirable even though beyond what I wanted to spend and when I saw the item in person my desires switched off. There have been times I thought something was highly desirable and didn’t think through whether the style was really me and regretted the purchase sometimes later. This is why I sometimes literally spend years deciding before pulling the trigger. Of course this sometimes is detrimental due to increases but I’d rather be absolutely sure than regret.
To illustrate, at one point I was a tote bag lover and having collected bags for years it was only natural that I wanted a birkin. A bag that’s known as the ultimate luxury tote. I bought a few but following the pandemic my lifestyle changed and so did the world. Birkins are extremely recognizable now. I don’t like loud bags esp with crime in my area having increased. I carry little with me and I prefer crossbody for the security. The 25 sizes are also very impractical being half way up the arm type bag which you can’t carry this way in winter with thick coats. I’ve also been disappointed with the quality of some leathers. And if I could do it all over again I’d probably just have one 30 in a different color and that’s it. I don’t need more than one of those totes.
In life there will be many wants that are out of reach and that’s ok. It’s normal. Most people cannot afford a 10k bag and it’s not something to feel badly about. And most people also don’t want to spend that much either. I bought Chanel when they were less than fifty percent what they are today. I still love cfs but it is extremely unlikely I will buy another. I cannot justify that cost.
