I suppose my coworker's bag is one of the earlier models. And thanks for the reminder. I always check dates of posts and was simply making an observation.
Sorry, but I noticed that the original post that started this whole thing was from 2011. I think that the bags have been improved since then, particularly the piping, which is now more of a hard material all the way through, rather than the original piping which wore through to expose a centre core. IMHO the original was just to soft to withstand any wear and tear so they corrected it.
No problem! Honestly, I have been scared of buying one of these bags because of my coworker. Recently, I tried on the new mini Rockie: and it was beautiful. I've just never had personal experience with any of them to know. The leather is different than I'm used to.
I've been using my Rockie since March full time, and I'm not particularly gentle with my bag (I don't beat it up, but it gets put on the floor, tossed into the car, etc.). I do have some minor scuffing on the bottom corners and on the piping in the same area. Note though, that with the current piping it can't wear through as it's solid, it will scuff but since it's black I don't really mind. The bag still looks great, and the size for me, personally, is perfect. I can access my stuff very easily (I just leave the bag partially zipped instead of zipping all the way around the flap) and there's lots of room. My one caution would be that the zip on the small exterior pocket on one end of the bag has a tendency to works it's way down so it would be possible to lose stuff out of that pocket. It's so small that I don't find it useful anyway, but that's just me. Some people do find the bag heavy, I don't! The mini would be lighter if that's the size you're looking for.
