If you are considering buying an Alexander Wang duffle...read this please!

I bought this duffle from Aloha Rag back in June. I noticed that one of the straps was coming apart about 2 weeks ago. You don't even know how heart broken I was to find out my favorite bag was out of commission.

I contacted Aloha Rag and they said they would pass my information on to Alexander Wang. This is what I got from AW:

We have never seen damage like this! I forwarded the images to our handbag production team and they too said it looks like customer wear and tear especially since it is isolated to just one handle. Unfortunately we can only fix something if it is attributed to factory defect not customer wear and tear.

And that was pretty much the end of that. Aloha Rag said they couldn’t do anything for me because it’s a customer wear and tear defect. I just don’t how it could be a wear and tear defect when only one of the handles was badly affected. And it seems they expect customer wear and tear to happen within 8 months.

Now I am stuck with a useless bag. I just want other people to be aware. Buy at your own risk with AW!!

Oh, I'm sorry this happened to you. I'm not quite sure from your pictures what's going on with the handle. Did this just happen over night after 8 months of wear?

i'm am sorry this had happen to you! unfortunately i had a problem with my bag too!! my problem is with the edge and i actually posted a new thread on it called AW edge problem, I had this bag for less than 4 months!!!! I am shock and sadden how fragile the leather was especially when i'm paying such a high price i'd expect sturdiness!!

you need to dispute AW on that... it sounds like a defect to me, especially since it's not on both handles. it's not like you carry the bag with only the one handle.

seriously!!!I am going to try and fight this as much as I can. I mean, do they expect me to just continue to carry this bag with one handle???

i will keep you posted! thanks!

ITA, this looks like a defect to that specific piece of leather. From the photos it looks like the leather has completely worn away from the strap, or is it just my eyes?

No, you're right! The leather has, that's why the bag is totally out of commission...unless I get some black duct tape or something.

I sent an email to AW and so far no response. Hopefully I will get some type of answer from them!

No, first gen doesn't have a seam at the top of the handle. I hate that seam!!! Why, oh why did they add that seam? :nogood:

There was an article in today's Wall Street Journal about ways that designers are cutting costs in the face of rising materials costs. They showed a Rebecca Minkoff bag, and said this:

"This $495 handbag from Ms. Minkoff's 2011 spring collection shows the choices designers make to keep prices stable despite increased leather costs. The strap uses two short pieces of leather with a diagonal seam instead of one, pricier long piece. The bottom of some bags may be two pieces of leather rather than one."

So perhaps they put the seam in the Rocco handle because two smaller pieces of leather is less expensive than one larger piece.

^ That would make sense... wow, that's so disappointing though. Don't they realize that all of the complaints and damages that are coming out of their cheaper production decision is just making it more costly for them in the long run? Not to mention completely ruining their reputation.

they shouldn't go cheap on handles... that's the part that gets the most wear! i don't mind extra seams on the bottom, sides, etc, but not on the handle or straps.
