Bumping up this thread! All these gorgeous brooches have me inspired!

Could you help a beginner collector out... what sort of designers should I keep an eye out for? Should I go high quality or get costume pieces I like?

And how do you all style your brooches? I'm worried I'll end up looking like an old lady Do you wear other jewellery with your brooches?

Thanks ladies!
Hi, I just buy what I like. I have many that I wear, but more to work and church. Depending on the size of the brooch determines my necklace, just wear them and have fun. I love to wear and see a beautiful brooch.

I don’t know the history of this cameo but it was my mother’s. I had a high necked lace Victorian inspired wedding gown and wore it at my neck as “something borrowed”. Mom died in 2013 and I asked dad if I could have it. I think it is beautiful. Scared to wear it because I would hate to lose it. View attachment 3915144

What a perfect keepsake from your mom. So pretty! I love cameos. They are so classic and you don't see them often. I haven't worn mine in ages but after seeing your photo I think I'm going to find an opportunity to wear it this week. [emoji4]

One of my earlier Chanel purchases, wearing this brooch today. Not sure if you can see it clearly it’s really really tiny,

Love this! It's adorable and classy at the same time.

I only have two brooches. The top one is Tiffany Paloma’s Graffiti. The bottom one is a sterling and 14k w/ marcasite one I found at TJ Maxx.

Love the arrow and I wish my TJ Maxx had jewelry like this in stock! It's all costume in mine.

Thanks! With TJ Maxx, I find it's really just luck. I've scored pieces from Ippolita and Lagos there. Other times, you don't really find anything worthwhile.

Love both of those. I can imagine them looking very elegant on a lapel. What is markasite?
Thank! Marcasite is another name for pyrite. During the gold rush in the United States in the mid 19th century, it came to be known as "fools' gold", because nuggets of it were often mistaken for gold. When Louis XIV was King of France, only he was allowed to wear genuine diamond jewelry, so marcasite was often used as a diamond simulant.
