Brandoff - Good Experiences? Other trusted Sellers?

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

OK, now I am confused! eastvalelux was bad enough!

ETA it appears that if you return for “it doesn’t seem authentic” and they are "Unable to verify authenticity", all you get back is the purchase price plus any sales tax. So, you lose shipping on a fake? Under refund for those circumstances it says "100% of purchase price plus any sales tax paid". No mention of shipping.

So, we are to trust unknown sellers that EBay chooses. smh

It looks like the program changed without their announcing it.

When Ebay ****************** started, if an item was found to be fake, there was going to be a 200% refund (double your money back) as discussed in this post copied from the announcement.
"To further bolster consumer trust in this program, if a buyer receives an item following inspection and it’s found to be inauthentic, eBay will refund the buyer two times the cost of the original purchase price*."

That appears to have changed according to the current policy:

And here's another of the original discussions that mentions the 200% refund:

"It even has a 200% guarantee, whereby each verified bag is backed by a guarantee of double the purchase price."

Yes, it has been changed:
"If the independent expert is unable to verify the authenticity of the item, you will be refunded 100% of the item purchase price, plus any sales tax paid, in full and final settlement. No additional amount will be owed to you." So, no 200% and appears no refund for shipping unless it was included in the purchase price.

ETA it looks like in the previous version, EBay provided shipping labels so maybe they still do,

It seems that eBay has started a program of asking "expert industry specialists" to verify authenticity of items both pre and post sale. What this is and how reliable it can be I cannot guess.

It seems that eBay has started a program of asking "expert industry specialists" to verify authenticity of items both pre and post sale. What this is and how reliable it can be I cannot guess.

For example an eBay pre authenticated item from seller Linda’s stuff:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hermes-Blu...qYAAOSwczlbL-ia:sc:US_UPSSurePost!10075!US!-1

This item is Part of the program that states that “expert sellers” pre authenticate items. No other details about the program or who the expert sellers are is provided.
That's been the complaint all along. Unless they're transparent about who's doing the authenticating of these items, I'm not comfortable.

In fact, on AT Coach, we've (un)authenticated linda*s***stuff Coach items from listings that stated that the items were authenticated by MyPoupette.

It would seem that now there is no refund for the buyer who buys a fake bag unless the bag was part of the eBay Authenticate program and vetted by the expert sellers.

https://www.ebay.com/s/itemauthentication/buyer#terms-and-conditions
There's still a refund but it's the same buyer protection offered to ANY buyer of ANY fake from ANY seller. They file SNAD and get a refund.

The "beauty" or draw of the ebayAuthenticate program when they first touted it was that if an item was proven to be fake, the buyer would get DOUBLE her money back. And with that guarantee, there's more of an incentive for ebay (and authenticators) to get it right the first time.
