Box shortage ?!

I was just told by a SA at Chanel Saks in Michigan that they are no longer giving boxes with any handbags starting Jan 2022. She was told for "environmental reasons". She said it'll come with dustbag and everything else but no box. She said they are telling their clients now to lessen the shock when it does happen. She told me in person while I was in the store. I asked another SA in Chanel Nordstrom and she didn't hear anything yet.

Moderators (@Swanky ) not sure if this fits in this thread or if it warrants a new thread.
Oh for Pete’s sake Chanel- be truthful, this is not an environmentally conscious effort on your part, it’s just being cheap and cutting a expense! There are many ways to create an environmentally conscious box if you wanted to really stand for that as a company- but that is not Chanel is it. Why don’t you get rid on your shoe boxes first? I am pretty sure we would be fine with forgoing the shoe box!

Did you guys get your boxes? According to my SA at Saks chanel, as of January 2022, she was told they are no longer giving out boxes with their handbags. She said she was told by corporate that it was for "environmental reasons" . They are letting all their clients know now to minimize the shock later.
Not sure if this is all of chanel or just saks. It sounded like it was all of chanel.
I asked my SAs twice. One said he would send, the other ghosted me but then replied about something else when he thought he was getting a sale. I never received the box my sa said he would send. Very disappointing indeed.
regarding the environmental impact, this doesn’t make sense since most keep their boxes and use them to store and transport their bags. It’s important for me to have them since I travel between two homes and I also like to keep their accessories (receipt, dust bag etc) in the box from which it came. Very disappointing if they do this but I’m at the end of the road with chanel anyway. Their bag quality is atrocious and inconsistent and the egregious price increases have made me realize I have had enough and have enough chanel as is. The customer service has gone downhill horribly the last several years. The price no longer is justifiable (if it ever was).

Chanel Hawaii is charging 15 cents if you want a bag and a box. I know it’s not much but totally not luxury experience!! It’s like when you buy grocery :( I tried to think it’s because of environmentally conscious effort but Dior and Hermes still give me boxes and bags free with my purchase. Not to mention that you also reduced the quality of it lately. The shopping bags are very thin and filmsy. The camelias are now just a piece of paper that keep falling off. And you are not going to give out a box with bag purchase in the future? What’s wrong with you Chanel? You keep increasing the price and cutting cost. I won’t complain about price increase if the quality is right and if I get the full luxury experience.

Hmmm… surprisingly both Hermès Ala Moana and Waikiki charged me 15 cents each bag within the last couple of days.

They must have some local law to every bags and boxes! I think more and more states/region are doing this. I don't think retailers can do anything about it as they need to claim to the local government ;)

I bought my Chanel 19 large preloved without a box. Would anyone be able to tell me the dimensions of the 19 Large box as I am trying to find one on EBay and have no clue what dimensions/size to look for? Thanks!

I just looked at a receipt from January this year purchase and to my shock there was a nickel charge for the Chanel shopping bag. I thought you was supposed to be told that your going to be charged for the bag. I know in small retail stores and supermarkets I know to ask if I'm charged for a bag but I never thought to ask at high end boutique. Basically Chanel is throwing this small fee on your bill without telling you. Not cool.

Yes and it makes no sense. They do this in some shops because they try to avoid that clients are using too much bags (especially plastic ones). People stop it because they don't want to be charged every time. They measured already in my country and it worked. But it won't work in the luxury industrie. Usually you don't buy a lot and I think almost everyone wants the shopping bag. They better produce with less plastic (which they started - my SA confirmed it).

Someone said previously that it is a state law. I am not sure why other store can get away with not charging but it sounds like that Chanel is just doing the right thing by following the law. If it is the state regulation, they do not gain any cents from it but to give all as tax money to the government. I am sure government check retailers transactions in such states so I really know why other store can get away not charging...

I'm aware of state laws. I carry my recycling bags. It's just the fact that if the Sa would have brought it to my attention like Oh by the way we charge for the shopping bags I wouldn't have mind. And believe me it's a discretion to charge this fee. I was in Bloomingdale's and I said something and the Sa backed off the fee. I just know if I purchase from the boutique to ask about this fee. Same state purchased items and had fees not charged. Shop online pick up from retail store Nordstrom no charge for the bag fee which is dumb because if you purchase at the register there's a bag fee.
