The style with the weave around the entire handle?
Yes, @V0N1B2 is (always ) correct.

When Tomas Maier was creative director of BV, there were many iterations of a hobo silhouette bag. Post #14 in this thread by V0N is what's commonly referred to as the Veneta or the Veneta hobo. That style, with a fully-woven handle is from 2014+. Pre 2014 did not have a fully woven handle. I personally prefer the fully-woven handle too (although I don't own one), and I can tell you from experience that they are relatively rare on resale sites. Do a search on a resale site for Veneta Hobo and you might find like 20-30 bags that are pre-2014 for every one that's post-2014.

I also encourage you to read the amazing Veneta Comparison thread by @jbags07, which showcases the different handle types, sizes, etc.

Thank you for all the info! Will definitely take a look.

I just bought a 2004ish medium veneta and I absolutely love it but there is something super elegant about the fully woven handle! I’ve also noticed they are very rare in comparison to the other style. I wonder why that this.

I was hoping there was a way to search specifically for that style but it seems like there isn’t. Anyway thanks again :)

  • TM was creative director of BV from 2001-2017.

  • I don't know what exactly what year the Veneta silhouette was released; Looking back at the reference library, I think it was 2005-ish maybe. (I welcome corrections!)

  • So the non-woven-handle style was sold for 10-ish years (circa 2005-2014), and the fully-woven-handle was sold for 4-ish years (circa 2014-2017).

  • Also my hunch is that the number of Veneta hobos that BV produced from 2014+ was relatively lower overall. BV started selling different hobo-silhouette bags that became quite popular too, e.g. what's commonly called the Loop hobo.
Unfortunately the only way to find a 2014+ Veneta is to put on sweatpants, charge up your computer, start a binge-worthy show in the background, and get ready to scroll like a lot on the resale sites. That or break into the closet of @jbags07 which would be frowned upon.

You’re such a wealth of knowledge! Totally makes sense that there’s essentially less inventory of that bottega style in the world. Also loling re the only way to track one down. Verrrry similar to what I’ve been doing to find them . With the medium 2014 Veneta being larger, I’m curious if they produced any in a small size? Thanks so much for taking time to provide a deep dive!

Thanks!

Taking a peek in the Reference Library at the Veneta/Belly Veneta thread, the 2014+ posts mention large and maxi sizes. I don't know the difference in dimensions. I defer to the BVettes who own(ed) Venetas about the sizes.

To the best of my recollection and knowledge, BV didn't produce a 2014-2017 Veneta that's equivalent in size to—let's say—the popular mini Jodie.

As @Euclase said, its a hunting game. Especially now with the release of the Hop, people are looking for the older, less $$ version. I only have 2 of the woven handle style, and tbh I prefer the older flat handle style. Its more comfortable sitting on the shoulder, and the fully woven handle is kinda puffy/bulky. But some prefer it. I’ve actually seen a few lately, on poshmark and on ebay. What colors are you looking to add?

:lol::lol: I needed a laugh today @Euclase and you gave it to me, so thank you:hugs:lololol. Warning! There are 2 remaining watchdogs, albeit under 5 pounds, but they are fierce :coolio::lol:
I’ve actually added 5 or 6 Venetas since i did that thread. But i sold all 3 of my maxis (waaayyyy too big), and sold 3 of my minis b/c the colors weren’t ones i reach for. You are correct tho, its a hunting game. Daily hunting. B/c the good ones usually sell pretty fast when they pop up!

Great summary of the Veneta style, you should add it to that veneta thread

I've always said what dogs may lack in size, they'll make up for it in attitude! My 30 pound Eskie thinks she's a Pit Bull sometimes, then she talks back to me like a Husky other times. All in a cute fluffy white fur package.

I have been low key looking for a neutral Veneta. The market right now is a little discouraging. When they do pop up, they have noticeable wear, and are priced higher than most other preloved TM era bags. However, persistence in your search will eventually pay off.

Oh yes! And the smaller the dog, the greater the attitude  Your Eskie must be gorgeous — they are such beautiful dogs:love:

There are still good bags out there but most in excellent condition sell really fast, and prices have gone up a lot this past year. Its worth it tho, the older venetas are amazing and thats why they are in such demand. Any particular colors/size? I can keep an eye out.
