I love that topaz in the picture! I have an aquamarine and it's a bit more lightcolored and with gold. I think you should go for topaz if you choose white gold...

Wow everyone! Thanks so much for the input so far!
rileygirl -- Your aquamarine ring is stunning! Is that a cushion cut? Your hubby is a sweetheart <3

With all of the expenses of the wedding, maybe I should stick to topaz. I really do want a big punch of color & I fear that I won't be able to find that in my budget in aquamarine.
Are blue topaz's treated to be that color? If so, then is there a better all-natural blue gemstone??
Thanks again!

I would choose blue topaz. It sounds lilke it fits with what you want colorwise/budgetwise. The two rings you are considering are gorgeous! You really can't go wrong with either one! Great choice for a something blue!

All blue topaz is irradiated to force a color change (yellow/brown to blue). It was originally used as a cheaper alternative to aquamarine, which it was supposed to mimic. Of the stones typically found, aquamarine is the least expensive naturally blue stone I know of. Lighter sapphires are cheaper than darker. Tanzanite is a blue-ish purpleish color. Azurite, turquoise, and lapis lazuli are typically inexpensive but don't sparkle.
There is also Iolite, also called the Water Sapphire. It is pretty, but is darker than what you seem to be looking for.

My two cents:

The Blue Topaz rings you posted are gorgeous. The stones are Swiss Blue Topaz-- a light to medium aqua color. I'd say go for it, as the price is way more reasonable. Also, Topaz is slightly harder than Aquamarine, so you have less chance of damaging it-- this is important especially with rings, since they get banged around a lot.

My favorite blue stone is London Blue Topaz. It is a darker, vibrant, smokier blue worth checking out. It is more expensive than Swiss Blue Topaz but still less than an Aquamarine of comparable size and quality.

For your wedding? A beautiful, saturated blue Aqua would be the ticket for me. Blue topaz's are rather commonplace (flame me, I don't care), and a great quality aqua is soooo unique and gorgeous. Not encouraging you to spend more, just stating my personal preferance. Thanks for listening.

London blue is my fave color blue topaz as well - very pretty!

blue topaz tend to be darker and brighter in color vs. an aquamarine which is lighter and faint in blue color. topaz are generally less expensive than an aquamarine.

an aquamarine stands out in an antique or vintage setting somehow. and blue topaz is best in a more updated, modern setting! i love both!

many stones are heat treated to get their color (sapphires, amethyst, topaz, and more), but that does not mean that it is a bad stone. if you want more bang for your buck, go for the topaz. you won't be disappointed. and its a beautiful ring!

Aquamarine is more valuable as compared to blue topaz. Aesthetic appeal is matter of personal choice. If you believe in the ancient beliefs associated to gemstones, aquamarine is believed to bring in luck and bestow a happy marriage.

All the best for a happy married life.
