wow if it were me, i don't know if i would trade a new bag for a used bag, even in good condition (unless it's one of a kind). can't you sell it and then buy a new one with ghw

I know. My husband said the same, but from where I'm from the Hermes boutique never has Birkins. And if they have one...its not the color, size, etc that I want. I am so hesitant to sell myself. Have been burned before and the dollar amount was nothing.

Can't you pay to have the boutique replace the hardware for you? Of course I guess then the heat stamp would be silver, but at least it would be your same new bag.

^^I honestly don't know. I am new to H myself but it seems to me that it would be something they do. They are most accomodating. I would love if someone like Audreylita or Ranag would chime in...they are seasoned H ladies! I will PM them and direct them to this thread for their input.

And, I remember Audreylita telling me that if I needed my Hardware replaced due to scratching they could do that for me. I think it may be on the Spa Menu!

No you can't. They will replace certain pieces to the same color hardware but they won't change it out for another color. You have to consider the feet and zipper too.

You sure you want to trade a new bag for a used one? I would feel like I was taking a hit, they are so expensive now.

My gut says that the reseller wants your spanking new bag to resell at a huge markup--obviously they are a reseller and that is what they do. A Black Togo 35 with PHW is HIGHLY DESIREABLE. But on the flip side, if the bag sits in your closet unused that is just a waste.

I don't think I would do this trade. It doesn't sound "fair" to me.

With regard to the other issue, I have had discussions about selling a bag to a reseller once and the deal was to be that I would send the bag to them first, then they'd send me the money. This was a highly reputable reseller. Maybe it's the normal practice since people try to scam them. (I never went through with it.)

I wouldn't mind trading a brand new bag for another one in the same condition. I won't trade it for a used one at all. I would rather have the bag sitting around for nothing. You can sell your black birkin after you buy the one you really want.

Dear OP, your bag is going to be sold in a minute on "*bay" ... especially if you are willing to sell for the purchase price. Get your money back, and buy a brand new bag. You will regret this deal the rest of your life. Can't you return the PHW for a store credit, and get your dream bag?

Nix on the trade.

And you can call me a freak but as soon as I read about you sending yours to them, my antennae starting to wave in the breeze. (Every time I used to ignore that gizmo, I'd pay dearly.) The very next thought was why wouldn't they send you theirs first?)

As for letting go of a present from my hubs, nope, not gonna happen capt'n. (Okay, so now you know I'm sentimental and freaky.)

I like to chim in in this thread. Couple months ago, I bought a Birkin from boutique, it wasn't really love at first sight. I bought it just because it's a new color but after several weeks, I decided maybe I should just let it go. I don't want to sell it on ebay and go through all the hassle, so I contacted one reseller that I ever bought from. I basicly told them that I bought for xxx and I just wanted my money back. They said they were interested and pretty soon they were offered me bunch of other birkins as trade and some are used which I politely declined. I just don't feel I want to trade my brand new birkin for used bag.

I also don't feel comfortable to send my bag without 'really' protection. So it never happened. Just like everyone says, I don't think it's fair to trade your brand new birkin for a used one besides this is a special gift from your husband too.

I didn't ask why they would consider the trade. I guess b/c my bag is brand new and the one I'm going to receive is used has GHW. I have been killing myself b/c I haven't used this bag but its just not the "one", if you know what I mean. My husband is a little disappointed with me, but he says he is more concerned that I don't get the "switcheroo". That's why I'm turning to all of you.

Trade sounded good to me. I wouldn't have to list on e-bay and deal with all the hassles...

Am I making a good decision?

If DH is ok with it, if you're ok with it and the reseller is a trusted one, then I say why not get the one that makes your heart sing? Its too expensive of a bag to not absolutely love it...and of course the reseller will sell at a premium, but whats what they do (and they assume the risk)

You can easily sell your BNIB Birkin through a reseller, recoup most, if not all of the money and buy a brand new one from the boutique.
I would have no problem doing a trade with a trustworthy reseller, but like many others said, I wouldn't accept an old bag for a new one.

PS: just saw your answer, if it's hard to get a Birkin at your store, maybe you could ask the reseller to find you a brand new one with GHW and then work something out?
