I sort of want to pickup a Givenchy bag...think the shape is sort of beautiful to my untrained eyes.

Albeit I wish the front profile looked more like the side profile. See photos brought to you buy Purseforum (I'm considering the smaller version) Antigona:

The Antigona pretty much fits my exact specifications. Main compartment with a zipper closure. Simple design. Adjustable body strap. Roomy interior for every-day-carry.

Anyone care to chime in regarding bag shapes and who else makes a similar cross-body bag? Also would like to avoid the exuberant price that Givenchy demands, and I am sure I can probably find something equally nice or better at that price point. I am thinking more along the lines of artisanal bags, or a maker with a lot more craftsmanship rather than through a production line.

Some other short lived experience included Dooney & Bourke Dillen bags. Similar shape IMO but different aesthetic IMO.

Thanks, Maria

The Bowling Manon bag looks beautiful. I always hesitate ordering international being from California but will do some further digging on the maker you suggested.

Best.

Not really artisanal, but have you looked at Madewell? Their leather bags are great and not too costly compared to other brands. There's some room for personalization (monogramming) which I like.

I agree Manse, I particularly love it in camel.....
Keep us posted.
Do you know that when President Hollande went to the US, his wife brought a Le Tanneur bag to Michelle *****?
It was the Vickie woven model and it seems that it was out of stock for a long time after that.....:smile1:

Another nice suggestion, anasa!
I like the Kesington and Camden bag. I believe I am looking for a cross-body like satchel bag. Medium size. Perhaps an interior compartment with zippers. So, wish the Kensington had more interior compartments.

Regarding Le Tanneur, the Nina bag also looks great. I particularly like the style with the main zipper, and another interior zipper compartment divider. I can organize my every-day-carry a bit better. It's called the Nina Shopper.

Cool to know, Maria.

My 4 most used bags are Mulberry Antony Messenger (for adventures), Mulberry Flight nylon bag, Longchamp Le Pliage L wlh in chocolate and Lumi Supermarket XL in blueberry. The Ant was a true bargain (preloved, in mint condition, 280 €) and being spacious and a rare color it's a bag that is very much ME; it's followed me through my adventures around Finland and done a great job at it. It carries a ton and can take pretty much any weather. I also like the shape of it, it stays pretty flat against my hip.
The rest of the bags I bought at full price but have gotten so much use out of them. They've certainly been great investments and I'm lusting after a couple of new LP and Lumi bags...Santa didn't bring any (he's still in training, for our first Christmas I got some nice dog-walking gloves and loads of chocolate :D ) but I have a -30% coupon for a department store. I'm thinking Lumi Supermarket S in fuchsia or LP in the same size&color.

Isn't the general rule for bags to: buy exactly what you love with the aim to use it for a long time, and not a similar replacement, or popular bag, that you like ?

Saying "invest" sounds like you plan on trying to sell for a profit later, which doesn't sound like the best thing to do. Unless you mean it's like an investment for yourself, that you get happiness returns on? In that case, it's highly personal.

This is how I feel about it too - a bag that I'll enjoy carrying for a long time, that will hold up to that wear, and not so trendy it will go out of style.

I only have a small collection of one LV, two Coach, two LAMB, one Kate Spade and one small Michael Kors but they all still look almost new and I can't think of anything else I need/want until some of them wear out.

As far as 'investing' to be able to re-sell I think this only applies to very high end bags, that you will keep in pristine condition and not have to sell quickly.

Anything in the range I could afford wouldn't have much re-sale value.

Maybe Hermes or Chanel, but only if you don't use them much yourself, if they look 'used' you won't get a good price.

The shape IS beautiful. Your "untrained eyes" have good taste. ;) I want one myself one day!
