Best and worst quality Contemporary brands?

I think a really nice contemporary bag designer that hasn't been mentioned yet is Furla. I own a couple of their bags and they are very nice quality. A plus is that they are still made in Italy whereas many mid-tier designers (MK, RM, KS, etc) are made in China.

I have yet to try any contemporary brands but just wondering how much you ladies would consider spending on one? I mean, I've seen some by Coach that are 4 digit which seems quite ridiculous to me...

I guess it depends on your budget. 4 digit for Coach is high for me too, so you're not alone. You can find great deals on Coach if you go to the outlet. Some of my favorite Coach bags are around the $100-150 range after all of the "sales" and promos going on (I think they are meant to be priced like that to begin with, the sales are there to make you feel like you're getting a bargain). Maybe my contemporary budget is super low, but I need to offset that with my high luxury budget! :p

I think most people consider Coach to be a solid contemporary/mid-range bag designer. Bags costing over $1000 are usually in the high end designer range. I think she is simply saying that she would not pay $1000+ for a mid-tier bag. I don't think that I would either. If I was going to spend that type of money, it would have to be for a high-end bag, and Coach is not high-end. Any yes, I own both Coach and other contemporary bags as well as high end bags (Fendi, Dior, Gucci, Balenciaga, etc) so I have experience with both markets.
Have you stopped to take a look at any of the new designs? The 1941 line by Stuart Vevers?

Can you even buy a full sized leather premier designer bag for $1000? Most I've seen are multi$1000s and usually too small to be an everyday bag.

Absolutely! If you wait for a semi-annual sale, your chances of finding one goes up substantially. It also depends on the brand, some like Chanel or Hermes, there's not really a chance. But others there certainly is.

I agree it's not the same quality, but can you argue that the full line bags are worth 10x as much as the made for outlet bags? I own both and while there is a difference, I don't think it warrants a difference of over several hundred dollars.

Actually, I absolutely think they are. The Rogue, the slim tote, the suede Ace, the Nomad...incredible quality.

Yes, I have, but Coach is still considered a mid-range designer brand. It is also over-saturated which is why many people will not be willing to shell out over $1000 for a Coach bag. I appreciate that Coach is trying to improve their game, but I still doubt most most people will spend over $1000 on one of their bags. Coach hurt their own brand name by making sub-par bags for the outlet and over-saturating the market. It will take them years to dig themselves out of that hole IMO.

Oh, I don't care what "category" expletive say they're in. I buy bags I like, from expensive to inexpensive. I agree they did hurt themselves with the outlets.....but the 1941 line is beautiful and will not be over saturated anyplace. I just hope Vevers stays with the company and they keep putting out beautiful bags.

I am the same. I buy what I like, but I pricing does play into it somewhat. During the winter, I bought a beautiful Michael Kors Collection bag which cost about $900. Not sue I would have paid over $1000 for the bag though when I could put that money toward a new Fendi. I like and own bags in all the different 'categories'. I have high-end, mid-tier, and low-end. Like I said, I buy what I like, but I do take pricing into account. I don't really want to pay high-end designer price tags for mid-tier bags as that just causes high-end designers to increase their prices (not something I want to happen).

Good point. I understand better now, that makes sense.
