I like your analysis! I'm still at logging use per day and observing for patterns/favorites. Hopefully, I can get my collection to a number and selection that I will be totally happy with!
I think you’re well on your way. Over the past few years, you’ve done a beautiful job of curating your collection. It wasn’t always easy but you have refined your taste and your selection of bags.

I think that by this time next year you will be very content. You have a few more bags that you need to get and my need to rehome a few but, I really think you’re close.
I have a confession to make.
I have slipped off the bandwagon in terms of financial prudency. I was so Spartan in spending for two months but now I've decided to reward myself by spending bag money on my skin!
I splashed out at the esthetician's office for a radiofreqency facial treatment that is supposed to help smooth the appearance of some acne scarring that I have always hated on my chin and temples.
One treatment is like a new bag and I'm planning to get them a few times, once a month....
I feel slightly naughty for 'spending money I don't need to spend' but on the other hand I feel like it's such a better splurge than on purses when I already have my shelves full of purses. Of course that's contingent on whether this treatment actually works! But if it does I'll feel like I'm investing in something that has a lot more lasting value to perking my spirits than a nice purse has.

Is anyone else redirecting their bag spending money to something else?
If so, how do you feel about it? Wise and smug or a bit guilty or both?
Personally, I think spending on health and beauty is always a great spend. I wouldn’t feel guilty at all about reducing the appearance of acne scars.

I haven’t redirected my spend. I set a yearly budget so I have dollars allocated for my wardrobe (including bags). I just haven’t chosen to spend any of it yet on bags.
wow 60 bags! I wish I could handle that kind of number. Whenever I get close to 2 dozen bags I start having anxiety. Right now I have 13 bags and I'm already starting to feel it! Maybe I need to be more relaxed about having variety.
I had to come to grips with the fact that I have to have variety. I like my bag to coordinate with my outfit. That takes a certain number of bags for me.

But everyone is different. If over a dozen or so doesn’t work for you, don’t force it. :amuse:

I'm closer to you than someone that could cope with managing 60. I'm at 30 and I feel it is too much. Maybe. I think I would feel best at about a dozen day to day and another dozen special purpose (like clutches or small crossbodies or summer-only). So I'm not far from that, but a bit of a tightening up and curating needed someday, maybe.

I'm always looking for to see what I can let go in my closet. I currently have a few backpacks and one I haven't used in a long time and I think it's time to let that one go but it's also black with silver hardware and very classic looking. I don't use backpacks as much anymore but find they do come in handy when traveling. So it's still on the maybe list for me.

Maybe pick the most versatile of the backpacks and let the rest go?

it really depends on the style/structure of the bag, e.g. my most fave and used bags are flat when empty, i have 6 of each BV hobo and Bal Day and total 12 take up space of 1 structured bag only! thus, storage of my pancake stack is not a problem :P
but i'd freak out to have 12 similar size/style structured bags!! :panic:

• 5 months and 1 week with no handbag purchases other than a bag swap.

• 15 days into the year and I haven't bought anything beyond necessities. In fact I've very happily returned about $4500 of stuff I bought during moments of insanity in December. When I looked at it, I wasn't even sure which of my personalities bought the stuff!

I'm not on a total ban because I do plan to buy clothes this year. But, I am trying very hard not to buy any handbags unless they're perfect adds. And, I'd like to see if I can make it to 6 months no purchases. Only 3 weeks to go!

Wow. I just found this thread and I’m so impressed by this!! Congrats! December and January were insane for me too, with sales and the like.

Wow. I’ve just read through a good bit of this thread and I LOVE IT!!! This is awesome and a perfect place for me to be right now. Hi to you all! Here is a little bit of where I’m coming from and where I hope to go.

Last year, I made a strong foray into Hermès, buying 6 H bags and one Chanel [emoji33] Along with that came a LOT of other purchases from H because I love a lot of what they have to offer. I did sell 2 H bags and a few other bags to help make up some of the difference. My current collection is 5 H bags, one Chanel, and one H clutch.

I had a crazy January for shopping and decided to quit all of the clothes and handbag shopping, including shopping online which is how I fill much of my spare time, for February. I’m 2 weeks in and it feels amazing! I did make a big, and mostly planned, art purchase this month. Outside of my impending trip to Paris in 2.5 weeks, I want to continue the trend into summer! My ban will have to be on everything but my two special order bags coming from H, likely both will arrive this year. I also want to be very strategic about what I buy in Paris so that I don’t wander from a pre-set wishlist of H and Chanel.

We will see how I do but I like how I cannot just automatically start browsing on Net a Porter or some other website with the rule I’ve set for myself. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and also your missteps. I’m happy to be joining this thread!

LOL! Almost all my 30 bags are structured and at least half are flaps. I love having them lined up on rows in my closet. I actually worry about my unstructured bags being in their “pancake”. I keep rotating them so they all get air and don’t get creased.

i know (lack of) structure can be a very huge number defining factor, just because of the space the bags take, it's easy to have many when they are soft and 'stackable', and absolutely not when they TAKE/NEED their place/shelf, thus everyone has own comfortable number.
my bags get used on regular basis, i am good at rotation, but still i will feel more 'under control' when there will be around 50 of them

That would be true if we were all rational. But, somehow I think most of us would find endless cubbies and hideaways to store our bags despite “traditional” storage limitations.

You rotate really well. So 50-60 seems reasonable to me.

I've noticed that I went for shoes, scarves and clothes in lieu of bag purchases. I want to control these purchases as well even if they don't cost as much as bags. I guess the first step is to recognize that these are not needed purchases at the moment. For instance, I am in a tropical country and yet I'm looking at UGG boots. I do travel to cold places, but then again, these should not be a priority purchase, right? I bought a trench coat from Marks and Spencer in November or December at full price, and yet I have no use for it in the near future.

There was a time prior to my bag addiction that I was into beauty treatments, nothing extravagant really, I availed of deals from group buying sites. They are alright for as long as you don't go over the top on what procedures you avail of.

Now, for me, time and resources have been diverted to bags (or shoes or clothes or scarves). But then again, I'm trying to manage purchases.

Welcome on the island! Sometimes when we are not on a hard pause in buying, what we aim is to stick to items on our wishlist. I guess that's where you are. Goddluck!

That’s why I went on a pretty crazy wardrobe ban @msd_bags [emoji23] (don’t buy the uggs! Haha)

If I wasn’t going bag crazy, it was shoe crazy, or clothes crazy.

I’m now doing a luggage tag stamp crazy thing but I’m justifying it as a collection and it’s less space taking and less expensive than anything else in my closet lol.

I feel everyone needs something. I’m slowly trying to change my something to not be wardrobe centric.

I think I failed to mention that I bought one late last year (on sale) and that I'm still checking for a black one now! Lol! (Told myself that I will only get another one if it is black in the model I want, and on sale.)
