Think good thoughts for me. My sister and I flew from Florida to Kansas City yesterday. She is grumbling about wanting a bigger purse. She might want to shop today before we head to our quilting retreat. It won’t be luxury, but always tempting.

Am I hearing the beat of helicopters coming to pick me up from the island? I already survived one shopping adventure without even being tempted. ..... to be continued.....

I didn’t spend any money in Vegas except for the $2 tip I gave to the omelet makers at our hotel every morning. So I’m still on track!

We walked through the Forum Shoppes at Caesar’s Palace when we went to the Elton John concert and I was disappointed I didn’t have time to look in the shops because they have so many designers that I don’t have access to at home. It’s probably just as well. At least that’s what I’m telling myself!

Thank you! I survived! Sister decided to buy fabric online before we left the hotel. She wants to make her granddaughter some things, so she decided against shopping for a purse.

We are now at the retreat. I have permission to shop here. They have totes, but no purses. I already have one of the two totes offered. Time will tell....

Have fun at the retreat! Enjoy your time away with your sister!

Well, I just jumped into the shark infested waters surrounding ban island without a life raft.

The Nordstrom sale got me. In my defense I’d been wanting a lariat necklace and long dangly gold earrings for a while. These are by Lana, a brand I like. The scarf is a little diamond shaped silk scarf that is very inexpensive in colors that I like for spring. The jury’s still out, I won’t know if I’ll be keeping any of it until I receive my order. I’ll keep you posted. ;)

Very pretty choices can_do_mom. The jewelry sounds like planned, mindful purchases and the scarf is a fun spring add. You’ve been subjected to a lot of temptation with your Vegas buying trip and having been doing great holding strong. It’s like taking a short swim out and back. Enjoy the cute accessories!

A pre-planned or pre-thought purchase at a sales price is a worthy excursion from ban island territory IMO, and the scarf is very pretty indeed :flowers:

Hi everyone,
I wanted to jump on this thread so that I can say "out loud" that I am going on a complete shopping ban. I'm not sure of the length yet- at least 30 days but probably longer. My shopping has gotten out of hand lately. I spend so much time shopping in person or online, then returning/exchanging, selling, shipping... I don't have a good sense of my style and I buy as an outlet for stress, boredom, and a desire for a creative outlet. I plan to replace shopping with exercise, cleaning or an artistic pursuit such as making jewelry. I work and I'm in a full-time graduate school program, and my shopping is stealing time from these pursuits and my time with my new husband.
I spent the morning unsubscribing from all shopping-related emails and social media pages. Thanks for reading- if you have any advice I'd love to hear it!

Remove your billing and shipping info from your online shopping sites! Makes it harder to buy and delays you from placing any orders.

Make sure to delete bookmarks and apps on all forms of electronics!

Take pics of your crafts or take inventory to see what crafts you have to do. I scheduled mine throughout the year so I have “goals” of when to finish a project by. Kept me pretty busy so far!

Definitely try 30 days at a time to build methods on resistance to shopping :)

It sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now, working, grad school and newly married (congratulations!).

I think @bakeacookie has given you some excellent suggestions for substitutions for shopping. Do you have a friend whose sense of style that you admire? If so, maybe she could come over and help you put a few outfits together that make you feel good and perhaps you could continue defining your style from that point. If no friend can help, take a look at Pinterest outfits and snap a few screen shots of looks you like. Chances are, you have enough pieces to come up with something similar. Pull together 5-6 of those looks and put them on rotation.

Give yourself 24 hours to consider a purchase before you allow yourself to buy. The endless cycle of buying and selling is expensive, costing you both money and time. I think a 30 day break is a great idea. Set a goal so that you’ll have something to work toward during the 30 days. Whether exercise, finishing a school project, a hobby, book to read, etc. You can do it and we will be cheering you on!

Thank you so much for the encouragement, ladies! I feel really good about my choice to stop shopping for a while. Last night I sat down and made a necklace, and today I went to the gym- so things are off to a good start.
I really like both of your thoughts about setting goals and having something to look forward to. I'm thinking that this should not be an item to buy, but maybe an experience. I would like to change my thinking around rewards.
After the 30 days I plan to assess where I'm at. I will likely need to go longer, but we'll see. I'm hoping to develop an appreciation for what I have, to cull and edit the things I want to keep, and get rid of everything else. I'm very drawn to the idea of minimalism, yet my house is cluttered. I know it will take time, but I'm really ready this time.
Thanks again!
