Actually, I just received it and I have zero doubt that it’s authentic. Now I’m concerned if it’s too big in the arms. I’m able to return it so no worries about that.

It buttons over my larger chest, which is great. I feel more comfortable in oversize blazers, but I know this look isn’t meant to be oversized and I want the famous Balmain fit for the price.

This is a FR 40. Should I order a 38 or tailor this?

I normally wear a 6 in Veronica Beard blazers and in general I feel most comfortable wearing a US 6 in most clothes.

Any opinions would be great! I’m not the best at judging the fit on myself.

if it buttons up over your chest easily, but still has some extra space, I'd try the 38. If it fits you perfectly around chest and waist, then I'd keep the 40 and alter the sleeve length, if that is what you mean by "too big in the arms".

looks great on you btw. how do you feel in it?

thanks for your reply!

the chest area feels comfortable, and so does the waist. Not snug and not loose. There’s a part of the blazer around the armpit / breast that’s roomy but hopefully can be tailored.

the arm length is too long but I think that’s a common issue with these blazers that can be altered, right? I was thinking the arm circumference was large around the bicep areas, but I also tried it on again with a long sleeve shirt underneath and it fit better.

As long as others don’t think it looks like I’m swimming in it, I can keep the 40 and tailor it..

The arm hole is usually very fitted, so unless you have very skinny shoulder/upper arms, I'd suggest trying the 38. I say this with a grain of salt bc you are more comfy with oversized, but in your pics, the shoulder pad seems tad wide for your figure? I'm wondering how the 38 would fit... and yes, length can be fixed, but arm hole is a more complex alteration so make sure you have an experienced professional do it.

Quick update. I ordered the 38, and it feels great on me. It was slightly harder to button but the front button part was not too distorted (which was my main concern... it has a very slight wrinkle when buttoned).

The arm holes are not tight, but I suspect it may be tight with a long sleeve top underneath. With a bodysuit or tank top it’s just fine! I plan to lose more weight anyways.

so 38 wins, I guess it’s true to size for me. Who doesn’t love going down a size

PS thanks for your help!

glad to hear (and see) that the 38 is perfect on you...and don't worry about any minor creasing when buttoned. most of the time, I see women wearing it open anyways. welcome to the world of balmain fitted blazers. soon you'll be wanting to clear out more room in your wardrobe for another one.
