Lovely jackets! I agree with the SA that 38 will be too small on you. While the jackets are typically worn unbuttoned, you should be able to button it up. So it may be that you have to, in fact, let the 40 out in order to give you the breathing room that you need. Buy a 40, take it to the tailor and have the tailor alter it to perfection.

Just commenting that I adore these jackets!!! I have half a dozen Balmain blouses as well- well-made, comfy, really good quality silk...

Agree, their quality is top notch. At their priced, I'd hope so! Altho I did lose a sleeve button when it fell and rolled down subway platform yesterday...bummed. Need to make sure they're not loose.

I’m the same height as you. I came to this thread because I’m thinking about buying the blazer in the tan color. I like how the black looks on you more. I think you should go with the size 40, since you wear 40 in Chanel. You can always take it in when you loose lbs. I don’t think it looks bulky. Best thing is to back and try it on again when someone else is there...

Hi Everyone!

I’m considering adding a Balmain jacket to my closet. Currently I am between a 38/40. For reference, I’m 5’1, 130ish pounds (I’m also losing weight too as I’m doing interment fasting). I’m a bra size 36C and 27/28 in jeans. I have a Zadig and Voltaire jacket that fits slightly big. I own a Chanel jacket 40. I’m scouring the internet and ourseforum and it looks I could pull a 38. So I went to the Balmain Boutique and the SA, even though she’s nice, said I’m a 40 and had me tried only 40. She said “don’t even try to wear a 38 Bc you are a 40”. And when I tried to button it, it barely button but she sort of reprimand me and said these jackets are not made to be button up . She said “look at mine. I can’t even button mine. It’s not made to be button”. So I don’t know which one to order. I’m attaching the blazers I tried on. Could you all please let me know if this sz 40 looks good and I just need to hem the skeeves or does it look bulk and I’m better off ordering the 38 and just taking out a few cm in the seams? Thank you all so much for all your help! ❤️❤️❤️

Hi ladies. I purchased a black balmain blazer with gold buttons from farfetch. Are the newer blazers now fitted with buttons that have the word balmain on them? Also, the gold seems to be a different gold to my navy balmain blazer I purchased last year. Its almost silver. Have they changed their buttons recently? Would love to know. Thanks.

Even within their range of blazers, there has always been some differences in buttons (tone wise, I've only seen silver & gold) depending on fabric and style. Wouldn't surprise me if they did redesign it, even if it was same style you got.

Oh no! That’s devastating  I hope you had an extra button
I was just walking to the subway car too, but thanks dear Karen. I do have the 1 small extra button that comes with the blazer, but it's just a bit irritating that I've only lost 1 button ever, meaning cannot find, lost outside of home, and it's a Balmain. Highly recommend everyone to examine their buttons once in a while.

Historically, how are black friday sales for Balmain blazers? How much do they usually go on sale for? I’m eyeing some classic colors priced well right now (around $1600 mark) and wondering if I should just buy now or wait it out until black friday? Thank you!
