It's hard to say. Of course the chunkier heel stabilizes the shoe, and the full leather sole will break in for your foot better, but the stiletto heels are more attractive. Between the two, the first ones are definitely sexier shoes.

I'd just call to make sure they either come with extra room built into the toe for you to insert padding or order 1/2 size up so you can really put enough in there to make them wearable. Even a small layer of crinkled newspaper with the lambswool on top would make them far toe-friendlier. You could even use the newspaper to slightly structure the toe to provide the best support for your feet.

Good luck. You are very brave to consider these shoes!

Well, pointe shoes have no heel at all. I think if you are able to pad the toe and try to keep your weight as much on the toes as possible instead of giving in to the urge to use the heels like you would on normal pumps (not that it would be possible to walk heel-toe with these!), you would be fine with either. But if you would more likely use both the heel and the toe to balance equally, then the wider heel is definitely safer (and another inch higher!).

I think I am going to get the first ones in black kid leather. I agree heel toe will not be possible with these shoes! I think I should be able to master them for at least the occassional evening out. What would you wear them with? And what height heels do you normally wear as well?

I think you have the right idea by keeping the rest of the outfit somewhat simple. You don't want anything to compete with the shoes. If you are quite comfortable with them, you could go with bare legs or natural hose to accent the shoes, but I'd keep the dress a basic-style black. They would also be a really surprising addition to skinny jeans.

I normally wear 3-3/4 or 4" heels, though I did wear 6" white boots with a 1" platform under my wedding dress. I normally don't go much higher than 4" heels, though, unless they are platformed. I really like the platform pumps this season.

Skinny jeans would be great! I usually stick with four inch heels these days, but have worn up to 6" with a platform many times before. I love those boots you pointed out but very expensive. How tall are you? I'm 5' 1". I also like wedge heels

I am 5'2", so I like taller shoes. It took a while for wedge heels to grow on me, but there are some I really like now.

Overall, I really like shoes and thought I'd seen most styles. But the ballet shoes were something I hadn't seen before! These are also interesting, as they don't even pretend to use the heel for balancing; it is right next to the toe! But these are far too expensive (at least for me!):

After my experience with pointe shoes, I don't think I'd want to try the ballet shoes. I try to keep my shoes budget in check because of handbag expenses, so I bought a pair of Aldo black platform pumps. Oh, and I have a pair of Nine West slingbacks with a platform with silver hardware at the toe. Those are very comfy.

But I am off to bed for tonight! Good luck with the shoes and post pics if you decide to get them!

I think that before you know how well you can walk in them you should stay with a quality leather pair, but I wouldn't go over the top in price. If you decide that you are fairly comfortable in them, then you might want to invest in a pricier pair. Ultimately, I don't think that cost will affect the comfort or wearability of the ballet shoes much. Structurally, they are what they are, and cost is unlikely to make them significantly better.

I'd wear them out for an evening if I thought I could handle them. But I just don't think I could!

Oh, and the ballet boots are also very sexy. Plus they would provide additional ankle support. I like these a lot:

i like these a LOT better.

but i don't know. i know when i did pointe, i had an easier time doing that than soft shoe work. once you find your balance, it's not hard. but even if you can't do the en pointe kind of thing and need to somewhat rely on the heel you need to make sure, for the love of god, that the heel is stable.
