Bags or SLGs that you really wanted, but they did NOT work out for you?

Divided bags: these drive me crazy currently. I much prefer a large opening and using a bag organizer.

THIS!!!!!!!! And a little bitty opening!
I know I shouldn't be, but I'm always somewhat surprised at how different everyone is! I personally love compartments, I find them really useful. And slip pockets, too. Not a fan of bag organizers.

A tiny opening, though, like with the Lady Dior with the zipper, or the Antigona, especially in a small size, - those are a huge turn-off for me, too.

I used to love compartments when I was practicing law; I had a ton of things to carry. But now I have five items that I move from bag to bag, so I find them a nuisance.

Let's talk about the items - be it bags, SLGs, clothing, shoes - that you really wanted and were sure you would love. But then when you got them, you realized pretty quickly that they just do not work out for you no matter how hard you try.

Have you ever had that happen to you?

I've recently had that experience. I always carried my keys on a key chain with a small charm. But I figured, I really should get a proper key holder to protect the inside of my bags and all the other stuff from getting scratched by the keys. So I got myself a 6-ring key holder by Burberry. It's black, it's pretty, it fits all of my keys perfectly. And... I hate it. It's so cumbersome and such a hassle to use my keys. I've had it for a couple of weeks now and still can't get used to it. I think I'm going to try a key pouch with a zipper. But for now, back to the old setup I go.
The Coach Rogue 25! I had been eyeing that bag for almost a year, bought it on sale at the outlet for more than 50% off, got one in decently good condition, and then...

I just couldn't make it work. Carrying it by the top handles was awkward because they're kind of hard, but if I used the shoulder strap, the top handles flopped in and made it hard to access the two slip compartments. The bag was heavy empty and even heavier when I put stuff in it. Because it's a relatively large bag, I wanted to be able to carry a small water bottle, but it was just too heavy. Plus, I was nervous about the hangtag falling off, since that's a problem with the bag.

Such a beautiful bag, but I couldn't carry it even around the mall without getting irritated!

Oh, I'm so sorry, Rogue is probably my favorite Coach bag and one I was thinking of buying someday. Shame it didn't work out for you when you wanted it to so much. Thank you for this comment, it definitely made me think! I don't personally mind handles flopping in, the bag I'm currently carrying has basically the same situation with the handles (although it doesn't have front and back pockets like the Rogue does), and it doesn't really bother me. But that the bag is heavy - that's unfortunate. Especially since my favorite size is 30, which is even bigger. :frown:

I find it so interesting how different everyone is too! I'm in the no compartments camp, but for different reasons than southernbelle43. For me, I want to maximize the space available to me in a bag, and I find dividers and compartments inhibit space. I can't just throw my things in. I have to put things in specific dividers/compartments based on how big, small, thick, or thin they are. I carry everything in pouches so I'm not all that concerned about items getting lost in a black hole, but since my pouches are all different sizes and widths, it doesn't always work when there are compartments and dividers. I don't like bag organizers for the same reason. I do love an inner zip or slip pocket for my LV key pouch and phone - the only things I carry that are not in a pouch, so those go in an inner pocket. No inner pocket of some sort, especially in a tote, is a near-deal breaker for me (I say near because if I love the bag enough, I can always make exceptions!)

Other elements that I dislike are when the carrying options of a bag are ONLY handheld, crossbody, and/or long shoulder. My carry preference is short-shoulder. There are many beautiful bags I've passed on because the carry options didn't allow for short shoulder carry. So many bags lately come with a detachable shoulder strap, but it seems that so often, those straps only allow for crossbody or long-shoulder carry.

What a perfect example of how different we all are. I find the Rogue 25 firmly in the small bag camp! The Rogue 30 is on the larger end of medium-sized for me, and I find the Rogue 36 is more towards my preferred everyday size.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't say it's a large bag! If I'm categorizing into small, medium, or large, it's definitely a small/medium bag to me. I just meant large relatively to other small bag options I had (like the Coach Court or Fossil Fiona) :). If a bag is large enough to fit my phone, wallet, keys, some toiletry-type essentials (hand sanitizer, chapstick, etc.) with room to spare, I always try to throw in a water bottle!

Talking about differences I am surprised at the number of people who carry water around with them. Of course, I never had to commute for long periods of time on mass transit either.
Yeah, I could see how few people do this! But, if I'm going to the mall for an hour or two, I'd rather have water with me than use the water fountains or buy a drink. I always get surprised comments from SA's about my water bottle if I'm carrying it around/it doesn't fit in my bag. I grew up singing in choir, so we'd always have water bottles on us. Also have always lived in major cities where it's hard to just pop into a store to use the restroom or get water, so maybe that has something to do with it! I guess I just got used to being overly hydrated!

Honestly, you should go into the store (outlet - I think the Rogue is getting discontinued?) and see! Don't take my word for it. I just tend to be picky about bags I find finicky. If it's uncomfortable to me walking for a couple hours around the mall, I hate the bag. It doesn't help that my husband walks incredibly fast. I already have a hard time keeping up with him, so if a bag slips off my shoulder, I am toast! Maybe it'll work out for you and our use cases are completely different! :)

I used to really want an LV key pouch (cles), bought one of a contemporary brand to try it out and ended up not liking it. I’m glad I tried it out that way first.
I actually went the other direction. The first key pouch I got was the classic LV monogram circa 2003. I didn't love it, but I knew it was almost what I needed. I got the vernis key pouch in bleu nuit in 2009, which is slightly larger as far less ubiquitous. I absolutely loved that blue so hard it made my head spin. Still do. Unfortunately it was inside my bag that was stolen in 2014. I miss it everyday, but I used the classic monogram canvas key pouch in its stead. I never loved it and I never used it the way I used the vernis. In the last two months I actually found a pre-loved replacement and it feels so right.

I'm a mass transit commuter, and while I don't have the longest commute (about an hour each way), I don't tend to carry water with me. I only bring a water bottle in my bag if I will be taking a pole/aerial/contortion/fitness class. I actually feel like I should bring water with me more because I do need to drink more water! I just don't tend to get thirsty very easily so it never occurs to me, outside of taking a class. I carry so many other things though that maybe it's for the best - my regular stuff is heavy enough!

I get it. It's definitely large in relation to other options, for sure!

If I'm going to be out for more than an hour and a half, a water bottle is a must for me. I don't like to buy water, and I'm not a fan of drinking out of water coolers - I've seen what's inside those when they haven't been cleaned properly... You don't want that in you. So I have a reusable 20 fl oz / 0.6 liter bottle. We're supposed to consume about 67 fl oz / 2 liters of water throughout the day, plus I'm an avid coffee drinker and it's recommended that for every cup of coffee you add a cup of water to your daily water intake.

Even when I'm at home, I always have a glass of water beside me and I would take a sip every now and then.

Yep, that too! I can't go uber compact. The Rogue 25 is roomy, but it's definitely a small bag in my book.

I have found that kid's water bottles (10-12 oz) are the perfect solution for the heaviness problem! I don't usually make it through my 32 oz Nalgene for a couple hours, so for a little bit of time out of the house or commuting to work, that much water is perfect and not too heavy. :)
