I’m curious what people think. When this horrible disease slows down you you think there will be more bag offers or will there be a lag in production as manufacturers ramp up?

I think there will be a lag in production,

I heard in Asia, as the stores reopened, there were more offers of quota bags initially and it was easy to get them. However soon after the factories in France were shut down, those stores held back on offering those bags, because they were told by Paris there would be no shipment till the factories reopen which might be a few months down the road. So most likely there will be a lag. It takes at least two months from the time a craftsman makes a bag till it is delivered to a store outside Europe.

I was sort of wondering this, but also in a different way. With the drop in store revenue, I wonder (once production ramps up again), if there might be an option to obtain a third quota bag this year to help bolster the revenue lost. Just a thought. Only time will tell as we are in uncharted waters.

I had to move my May trip to Paris and decided to reschedule it for September, hopefully once the world reopens again....

I think the luxury market will likely take a hit & a big one at that.
With stores firing/furloughing employees which could likely be 20% of retail, production plans might have
to be re-evaluated including H..
According to many, the holiday season was not all what was to be expected.
Also we don't know if these design houses have lost any vital craftsman that would also impact
production.

This isn't accurate. Finished bags come into not just the UK but the US within weeks of completion - not just SOs.

There will be a lag but from production, not because of two plus months of delay after production. Hermes has a very efficient supply system.

I have to say that I wouldn't be surprised if this were the case. My SA was texting me earlier this week saying that when the lockdown mandate has been lifted and stores reopen, Hermes may not reopen to the public and be appointment / phone orders only. If that did happen, I could see SAs offering additional bags to their regular clients - assuming there is enough bag inventory to last / account for any future lags in production.

That’s really good to know, thank you. I believe the world and the system will recover in time, even if there might be any initial lag..

@QuelleFromage so sorry I thought I replied but not sure how it became blank haha. Thank you for sharing it is a big relief. I would like to put in a bag request when stores get opened and don’t wish to wait many extra months for it  resellers are still posting many bags and I wonder where are they still getting their bags from since many stores are closed worldwide :confused1: I’m very tempted to get a bag from reseller since it’s ‘instant no wait’ except I have no where to go now except my kitchen and living room lol.

I thought I would start a thread to share frustrations with the lack of quota bag offers this year. I and a few of my friends are all experiencing droughts and it’s not for lack of supporting the brand. I’m excited to read about everyone’s offers on the “share your 2021 bag offers thread”. However, it seems this is more of the rare vs the norm these days? Is anyone else getting frustrated at the lack of offers? I completely understand the France situation and COVID lockdowns but it seems it’s raining for some and a drought for others.

My understanding is that there are very few bags being produced at this time. I heard a while back that there is a leather shortage which is contributing to lack of product. I'm not sure why that is. Maybe someone else has more insight on that one. I know it's very frustrating to the SAs as well. For whatever reason I was also told that the demand is at an all time high. So it's supply and demand. Personally I view it as an opportunity to give my wallet a well needed rest ;)

While I have had some offers, im not generally looking for the same bags as others. Could it be, just my layman speculation here, that there may be a relative shortage of B25/K20/C18, bc H, like chanel, is trying to push consumers back to bigger bags? (some of the new fashion photos for fall seem to skew towards larger bags). My sweet spot is a B30, and it’s my understanding that those bags aren’t so difficult to obtain. It may also be due to ones location and the bag desired IDK! Anyway, I hope it eases up soon!

Yes it is correct that Hermès leather production has actually become a bit of a bottleneck during COVID. You can see that even on the website they're basically making bags in batches as leathers come in. A few weeks back we saw a bunch of Rouge de Coeur, then Anenome, now Nata... literally probably making things as batches of supplies come in. I also think that a LOT of people are asking for a very narrow-range of similar things and rejecting a lot of everything else.

Thank you for your insight. I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if there was indeed a leather shortage! I do wish that our SA’s would be more forthcoming with the issues that they are dealing with. I would have even greater loyalty to the brand if they were just upfront with me. Having been a loyal client for many years and still continuing to support the brand even with no offers, it’s getting a bit disappointing. My messages when I inquire about anything but a bag are quickly responded too. The messages where I inquire about a bag sit unanswered. Perhaps it’s just my SA?

This is an interesting theory as well that I had not thought of! Hopefully it’s not the direction they are going in. No matter what the push, I won’t do big bags any longer. They are just too heavy for me!
