That one is definitely fake.

This one looks more promising:
eBay: BEAUTIFUL QUILTED MARC JACOBS BLUE PATENT BOWLER (item 200027743392 end time Sep-18-06 09:01:54 PDT)

I'd ask the seller:
1) more closeup (and better focused!) pics
2) details of original transaction (pics look like it was bought at Nordie's, but I'm leery of the bait-and-switch)
3) riri zipper - she states it's M4 but should probably be M8? Can't tell from fuzzy pics.
4) dimensions - the dimensions she provides are for the small bowler, but the price on the tag ($1075) is for the large bowler

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Hi!

Could someone please help me authenticate this bag?

eBay: MARC JACOBS Black LEATHER TOTE BAG NWT (item 170029942497 end time Sep-22-06 14:49:20 PDT)

I love the size and it appears to be really clean...it would make a great everyday "knockaround" bag for me. The only thing that has me wondering is the shape of the patch that attaches the handles to the actual bag. I've never seen this shape before - only the more "trinagular" one.

Any opinions/thoughts?

Thanks so much!!

I saw one of these on ebay a month or so ago in the light rose color. I think it was authentice because sparkle___ bid on it, and she is quite the collector. This bag is "selma-ish" to me, and I think it is great! The only negative I have heard about the Selma, this that it is easier to leave the lobster claw closures open, and that they can be a little loud when they knock around.

^ Just wanted to add the following: All the styles in older colors (non-F06 Linen, Putty, Butter, Orange, etc) are discounted at Nordstrom - at least 40% off. Have a friendly SA finds this clutch in the color of your choice.

Could you tell me where to call that has these in stock, or at least who would have an idea where to look? I tried to call Nordstrom's in Dallas, and the gal said they never had Putty (company wide) and that there were no clutches on sale for 40% off. She was looking in the computer, so I'm not sure what she was even looking at.

Who has a friendly SA, that knows about the sale items?

Thanks so much, tln! I always appreciate how receptive every one here is to answering questions from "neophytes"!!!

This is all good to know... I would probably close the lobster claw every time so it wouldn't bang around. I know what you mean though...I leave the buckle on my Venetia open most of the time to avoid wear and tear on the strap.

Thanks again!

i should've ask for more questions before i went crazy bidding on 'em such a waste if it is fake..i actually went to nordstrom yesterday to check out the inside of the bag and it was the same gosh now im scared...so the zipper has to say riri M8??? okay ill go look at it once i get and then ill try to return them if its possible thanks so much!! for all ur help

Gosh, it looks pretty good, judging by the serial number and the other details. But the seller is somewhat of a newbie and they have Spys and Gucci Scarf bags for sale too, all highly replicated bags. I don't own a stam so I'm not 100%, and I can't find any photos of an Ivory stam to compare. Maybe someone else will come along and help.

Could someone please help authenticate this bag for me? I'm new at marc jacobs and i dont have a clue. Thanks :)

I have a small bowler and the zipper is riri M8. Not sure if the large bowler has a different zipper, but I would confirm.

One of the dead giveaways for fake bowlers is the texture of the leather (for patent versions). It should be wrinkly. Also, the handles on the bag should be puffy and wrinkly; most of the fakes have smooth, flat-looking handles. The final reason I'm suspicious of the bag in the link you sent is the price - seems "too good to be true" for this bag. I'm not implying that getting a good deal on a bag always means it's fake, but for this bag I'm not sure.

Thanks bag.lover. Do you know which Nordstrom by the way? I called my local Nordstrom and they told me they didn't have any sale of Marc Jacobs. Weird.

I found a really great SA in California that told me that all of the MJ sale items had been "racked", which means we'll have to call different Nordstrom Rack stores to find the zip clutch on sale. They are supposedly having a sale at the end of Nov-beginning of Dec, and the zip clutch may be marked down again at that time.

All the Soft Calf styles (Elise, Tote, Classic Hobo, Clutches, etc) in those discontinued colors were discounted (1st round was 40% off), most of them flew off the sale tables during Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Stores with clutches inside glass cases might have some left, customers didn't even know they were on sale in the 1st place. I'm not sure which Nordies still have them, only a SA can look it up in their system. Every now and then, we will hear some members getting theirs for a steal again.

Welcome to the forum! I saw this auction last night, it seems real, the color is muted pink. Black trim on the pink, red suede, pocket behind pouch is consistent with this color and bag. I would say it's real, but it would be nice to confirm the zipperhead. Too bad isoldit won't give additional photos.
