eBay: 100% Authentic Marc Jacobs Elise Bag Patent Black Lthr (item 190041842421 end time Oct-17-06 08:43:36 PDT)

Here is the link for the Elise bag I just purchased. . . again, any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!! (I should have checked w/you experts first!)

Bb3, I am really sorry to tell you that it's fake. From the upclose shots in the listing, the leather and zipper head are obviously wrong. I hope you can get your money back.

Check out this thread for some ideas on differentiating the authentic ones from the fakes.

bb3-

I agree with bag.lover, but don't allow yourself to loose sleep over this just yet...

I see the seller offers a 7-day money back offer. My suggestion would be to take delivery of the bag and photograph it (and the mailing parcel) thoroughly in case things become heated down the line and you have to involve EBay. Then - e-mail the seller and send it right back! If the seller does balk at giving you a refund, you'll have tangent proof that the bag was a counterfeit. I also see the seller didn't take PayPal so you won't have them as a resource, but you would have EBay (although their coverage on sellers with feedback under 50 is somewhat limited) and hopefully you paid for your purchase somehow with a credit card...if all else fails you can always ask for a chargeback against your card. In my experience, credit card companies don't mess around. Just keep all your documentation.

Hopefully this seller will want to avoid a stink and just refund your money. You may be out the postage both ways, but just consider it a lesson learned - I imagine that a large number of us here have encountered something similar to this one time or another, especially early on in our "collecting"!

Good luck, and may the "force" be with you! (lol)

I checked out this seller (732josephp)'s previous transactions -- all Muse & Stam replicas. The latest Black Stam even sold for $510, this is just too sad.

Well, of course I paid w/a personal check b/c I am WAY TOO TRUSTING AND AN IDIOT (and a first timer). Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. I am sure the seller will take it back though. . .she seems very nice and willing to avoid any scandal.

Okay, don't think I am pathetic and hanging onto a thread here- but I did look at the Blush Elise pictures- but that is not patent leather- is it possible that the patent leather is a different texture?

Is there ANY WAY that it could be real?

Also, do you guys suggest me taking it into a MJ store (I live in New York) and asking- or will they a) confiscate it b) laugh in my face (I am tough so don't really mind the latter).

I guess the saying: "If it's too good to be true, it probably is" is right. Damn. I'm just an optomist at heart.

One last question: are there EVER any real MJ bags that are sold on Ebay for less than 500 that are unused?

Which one is not patent leather?
Quilted Elises were never made in non-patent leather, all the non-patent Elises on ebay are fakes of non-existing item.

In Spring 2006 (beginning of 06), Quilted Patent Elise were made in Black, Blush, Chalk, Midnight, and Cola.

For Resort 2006 (end of 06), Quilted Elises are coming back, but they will be non-patent leather; they will come in Black, White Chiffon, Topaz, Almond, and Saddle Brown. I am told by MJ stores that this is the very first time Quilted Elise is done in non-patent leather.

Is there ANY WAY that it could be real?
No. I am 1000% sure that it is fake.

I don't think option a will happen. If it makes you feel better, you can bring it there to confirm.

Yes. Certain styles/colors don't have as high re-sell values.
Stam (regularly $1200-$1275) and Quilted Patent Elise (regularly $1050) are 2 of the most faked styles, the authentic ones don't go too much below retail.

^ It's unbelievable what sellers would do/say to pass off fakes as authentics. In Q#1, the seller mentioned canceling the auction to keep the bag since it's real --- it's still up.

Q: hi...i know that you already have a picture of the zipper but do you have one that clearly shows the shape of the zipper from the inside? also the four brass feet at the bottem can you send a pic of one of those. sorry to ask so many questions sooo many people try to sell fake MJ bags. thanks again!!!

A: Hi, I understand your concern. I am that way too and because I purchased the bag on Ebay I had to confirm its authenticity at Nordstrom. I found that the bag is 200% authentic from the inside lining, leather, tags, zippers, etc., and even the Marc Jacobs salesperson said, I like your Marc Jacobs bag. Now that I know that it is the real deal, I will be cancelling this auction and keeping the bag. I will be selling other designers bag though so please check back later. Thanks for your interest.

Q: can you take an upclose shot of the leather? is there anyway to send me bigger pics of the bag (the ones on the auction are heavily pixelated) the controllo card and tags? thanks a bunch! -june

Thank you Bag.Lover. You certainly are an expert.

I feel like such a freaking idiot. This has already been so distracting, I am just so dejected that I now must deal with the hassle of e-mailing the vendor, trying to get my money back, shipping back the item, etc. I was so excited about it, you know?

What are your thoughts on carrying fake bags? And is mine just laughable? (I mean, I do pass the men selling nasty looking rip offs on the street about ten times a day here in New York. Is it THAT bad). Then again, it is an ethical issue. I don't want to support a fraudulent industry.

Marc Jacobs actually belongs to my gym in SoHo. I see him there about once a week. Maybe I will just approach him and beg for a real Elise. . . Don't worry, I'm not that pathetic.

^ WTH? I just reported that auction. official_shopaholic is not only selling an ugly knockoff, but she also has the audacity to basically say "I was trying to sell a fake." Umm, bag.lover is right: It's still fake and it's still up!
