I remember someone started a thread asking if it's possible to buy a Birkin for about 3K, so if this one is authentic, albeit undergone a barbaric total change of nature highly invasive procedure...technically it is possible.
So was this bag born authentic?

HERMES BIRKIN 35CM TOILE LILAC CUSTOM DYED

Hi

Yes it appears that it was born authentic. It is now a travesty!

While this is an example of a 3K Birkin, and therefore 'technically it is possible', I would not want this to in any way encourage thread viewers and/or novices that an authentic Birkin can be acquired at this price point. It is to all intents and purposes destroyed, and I would argue that this Birkin has a very low value indeed, certainly below the 3K. I say this because word gets round on blogs and who knows where that there was an authentic Birkin on eBay and so you can get them at this price and people will be thinking that when they see a fake, unbeknown to them, at this price it is a lucky authentic find.

In 7 years trawling through eBay I have never seen anything quite like this and the seller is right with their statement ' THIS IS THE ONLY BAG OF ITS KIND UP FOR AUCTION ON EBAY ' . It is such a pity it really is.

I would also like to add that Hermes will not touch this bag in terms of maintenance. The "dye" is glopped on so thickly, it's a joke - and impossible to tell what is underneath in terms of authenticity. Awful bag, at any price.

Hi Fleurs and Misti, thank you for your replies. I agree this bag is like a badly done drag queen. I would so like to know what happened to it in a first place, why on earth they dyed it??
I think there's always someone for everyone or anything, like this bag. hey, it is technically a Hermes Birkin at 3K afterall :D - by all means better then a fake one, no?

No. Not in my opinion. Why throw $3k at this? And I still feel with the paint glopped onto it, it's impossible to say for sure if there is an authentic bag underneath.

I did not make myself clear enough: there are still those people out there willing to buy a Birkin or a fake one for, lets say, said 3K, - for the sake of having one. They can't or not willing to pay anything more for that. So this 'one in a million' specie is just perfect for them. At least it was a real b once.

Hi

I know what you are saying but I don't think this is perfect for anyone really for a number of reasons but each to their own lol! But I think you are right there are people out there who would do this. I believe that you just can't have Champagne on a Cider budget a bore that it is!

Apart from the terrible condition, which can't be changed or improved, there are always going to difficulties regarding it's authenticity because of the thick layer of which looks more like some kind of rubber/plastic paint obscuring some of the details as mistikat rightly stated. Additionally this covering will split and flake and who knows what in the future. Really it is a no go and I would not want anyone reading this thinking I'm giving it a certain green light on authenticity, I've looked at the Birkin carefully and I know what I think, but there are others who will disagree and have other opinions that would need to be considered. :smile1:

I've no idea what the motive was for this home dye event. It is possible that they really wanted a Birkin in this colour or there was some accident with the leather and toile and they tried to cover it up with a home dye and another colour. While many would say it serves them right I feel rather sorry for them, and for the Birkin.

mistikat - The deal is a private auction since the two birkin bags that I posted are going to be sold outside ebay - they were not posted on ebay - only the yellow one is. So for me to know if they are authentic or not I should ask the seller to take close pics of the listed specifications such as zipper, hardware etc? And the pics that I have posted doesnt really show if its authentic yet?
She also sent me a picture of both receipts and theyre under her name.

So well put! FWIW, I am pretty sure that I have seen this very bag before, likely on one of the archived AT threads. So, either someone has had it for a while, now again trying to unload it, or, it is making its rounds hoping to find a happier home. A travesty, indeed.

I feel compellet yet again to say: a receipt is just a piece of PAPER! If people rely on paper when buying a bag they will most likely be in for a nasty surprise.

Go to the first post of this thread, it will show you exactly what pictures are needed, and how to post your request. Good luck.

If you do a search on the seller (which is why it is important to know details like this) you will see several posts about them that will make it clearer why you may or may not want to do business with them.

And yes, it helps to know a seller's Ebay name so that we can also see if they have a history of selling authentic items, if the bag has been sold before, etc. So if you have that information, it helps to include it.

Personally, I would not purchase anything from this seller.

ETA: When I looked this morning, the seller had two identical auctions for the same yellow bag. Both have now been pulled by Ebay.
